Drag suits for swimming

I know there are speedo or the like specifically designed drag suits. Any reason not to wear just a regular go to the beach non speedo type bathing suit for extra drag.

Or do those suits alter one’s position too much such that the extra drag is not beneficial due to the much worse form required to overcome it?

Also, why no drag tops. I’ve seen kids wear UV protection swim tops when they go to the beach or pool. That must add some drag.

Any benefit wearing one of those to increase drag for swimming workouts.

I don’t think it matters much besides adding more drag. I used to swim in surf shorts when I swam in HS. You may get tired faster but it’s all worth it in the end.

Depends on your goal.

If you’re training with a group and want to slow down while keeping the same effort, drag shorts are perfect. That’s one example.

If you’re working on technique and trying to figure out what’s efficient for you, drags shorts are less desirable.

This is probably just my preference but I like to feel how the water goes by me when swimming at what would be my racing speeds.

Beach shorts to me are a pain in the arse, my speedo jammer is functional enough, fits in the suit spinner and dries fairly quickly. I’ve had my endurance jammer for about 2 years now, I don’t think regular shorts would last that long.

Of course anyone could swim in regular shorts, I just bowed to peer pressure.
