I have a set of Vuelta road wheels as well, I know they’re better than the power taps. And lets face it, don’t need power in this race, just need to hang on.
So if you had to upgrade something before november, what would it be? Lets keep it under $500
If you think you will be riding mostly in a pack, then I wouldn’t do anything.
But if you envision yourself may be riding solo for a period of time, e.g. on the front breaking away or chasing alone, then I would consider a set of aero wheels and maybe an ITU clip-on aerobar.

A road fit, aero helmet, latex tubes, Continental Attach/Force tires.
Sorry, more info. Fit has been done. I have an air attack. Latex tubes and conti 4000s tires will be moved my tri wheels (no I can’t use them on a road bike, well certainly not the disc and the front is way too deep).
105 pedals, tri shoes, Garmin 910
Yea, my coach has really changed up the dynamics of my workouts compared to earlier this year for 70.3s and Olys. So much Intensity and speed now. I’m not a swimmer but we’re getting me there, I have the power, just need to hold it in the last 200. My cycling shouldn’t be a problem, i’ve been doing rides with the local group, and they’re some serious cyclists. Most are atleast cat 3. I’m finally figuring out the “smarts” of hanging on and responding to the attacks and making my own surges. And We’ll just say i can run
Do not get the “ITU” clip on aerobar, unless you’re racing as an elite. Not sure about USAT, but certainly if you plan to do an event like Worlds, they are illegal for Age Group Draft-Legal racing… At an event a couple weeks ago, one guy got pulled out of the staging area by an official and told to run back and remove his bars with the 15min he had left before the start (or to not bother starting).
As for gear… deep section wheels, aero helmet? Mainly I would say take that money, register for a crit or two, and immediately after finishing, do a short quick run off the bike… That overall will serve you way better than any toys…

So the ITU-legal aero bars are NOT legal in ITU World Qualifier AG races?

At the Clermont DL races last year, certain pieces of equipment were not allowed. The two biggies - aero triathlon helmets and disk rear wheel. I suspect an aero road helmet would be allowed because the organizers (not so jokingly) identified an aero tri helmet as one with a pointy tail.
USAT did have a document describing the equipment requirements/limitations. You might want to look around their website.
As far as I can tell, there’s no rule at the ITU level against TT helmets for DL Age Groupers (dignity on the other hand…)… Disc wheels are expressly forbidden (although the age groupers are not subject to the same stringent wheel rules for DL that the elites are, there’s just the minimum spoke count rule), as are the shorty bars that a few of the elites still use (they are still legal for elites).
Race some crits, to get that engine really going. Best bike handling and speed work you can do.
agree 100%, and practice running after them, even if it’s short… if your local crit season is finished, see if you can find some people to ride with and someone to motorpace you. Honestly the best thing I ever did for my bike handling and cornering was some serious high pace motorpacing work…
Running off the bike after a DL ride is a very different animal than after a non-draft ride, because you are not in complete control of your pacing/effort, so without practicing that you may end up with an unpleasant surprise (speaking from experience)…
