Athletes beware of TriSportExpress. They claim they’re the “safe, simple and economical way to ship your bike”. One week out from the Augusta 70.3 Half Ironman, the company canceled my reservation. Since I was the only bike in the Austin area they had booked for Augusta, they said they would refund my money and give me a 25% discount for a future reservation. I told them not to worry about the discount because I would never use them again. Not once during the reservation process did the owner mention the risk to me if he could not locate other bikes to ship in the Austin area. Now I need to scramble to find another alternative to ship my bike from Austin to Augusta. Don’t find yourself in the same situation. STAY CLEAR of TRISPORTEXPRESS!
That sucks, very late notice.
Company name duly noted. I won’t use them.
Sucks about the late notice, but just a thought here, maybe fly with your bike??? I’ve done it over 250 times or so, and never had a problem…WHy stress, just borrow a bike case, or if you cannot, go to a local bike shop and get a box. If packed correctly, boxes are fine, hell Faris flys all around the world with one…Good luck…
I don’t know why you’d ship your bike anyway. Knowing how to assemble/disassemble your bike ought to be required skills, whether you plan to fly with your bike or not. It’s just that knowing what you need to know to do those two things will go a long way in saving you time/money/stress. Buy a TricoSports IronCase. I’ve had mine for almost 10 years. It’s probably flown several hundred thousand miles. It is the best case. Period.
I’ll second the Trico IronCase. I’ve had mine for nearly 9 years. It has been through a lot, but it is still in perfect working order.
The case is nearly indestructible. I only need to:
- take off one pedal
- take off seatpost w/ saddle
-take off stem, extensions
Takes about 8-10 minutes to have the bike go from “race-ready” to " ready-to-fly-home" after a race. I have done so several times at the race site, after finishing the race and before the awards ceremony.
Get one and you won’t regret it.
x2 … Did the same to me in June for Buffalo Springs 70.3
x3 and x4 they did the same to me and my wife 1 week out from lake placid. Same story. But better than that, he did not have the money to refund me after this until almost 1 month post race, and I had to threaten him with a lawyer! When he finally refunded my money he said he would ship both bikes for free next time! SURE
