Don't buy at LTP Love The Pain

These guys are amazing - like they are really trying to be the worst they can be.

I ordered my aero suit last Thanksgiving. Just got it a couple weeks ago. (First problem.)
Their website said up to 8 weeks lead time when I placed my order. They changed the website to 1-12 weeks since then.
Guess they need to change to 1/2 year or more.

Their communication about it was either non-existent, delayed, or loaded with excuses about EMail problems.

Watch out for this claim on their site: *Please note that Love The Pain can add or take off LTP Logos at any time on anything.
******
Above that is where you can choose to add custom logos and names and multiples - customizable to your liking, right?
WRONG. I asked them to delete the logos as I wanted a blackout suit and they said no.

They said that they will not add or take off LTP logos at customer’s request but they can do it themselves without your permission.

That’s not worded correctly on the site.
They should say they reserve the right to add or take off LTP logos. It reads to me that they are offering that service to customers, especially after all the customization offers above.

Lastly, they changed my order without my permission. They claimed it was “an upgrade” but the suit I ordered I ordered specifically for the open mesh material they showed on the website. The “upgrade” swapped for a heavy, cheap looking material and hardly breathable.

I was going to live with all the logos but they sent me something I did not order and tried to pass it off as “an upgrade”. That’s false advertising.
I asked them instead of arguing about it, why not work with your customers and first ask them if they want that “upgrade” and then offer a refund if you cannot make it the way the customer wanted (with some deserved big apologies).

Their answer? “No idea what your talking about whatsoever” amongst other similar responses.
“We can update our stuff whenever we want as it says” “You were emailed and it stated it everywhere”
******
Well, actually their site only says they can change their logos at any time - that is if you understand it that way. So they try to smear that claim to cover for sending a different suit.

Yes, after I kept trying to get a status update from them, 5 months after I ordered the suit, they said in an email “Remember we upgraded you …” to this other suit.
So that makes it okay?! Just send 'em an email saying we’ll send whatever suit we want?

Who needs this?
I want to file a complaint with the state but it seems the laws require intent to harm or deceive, etc. and proving that must be very difficult. I guess they did not “intend” to screw me with the wrong suit after waiting 6 months but that’s the result anyway.

My advice: don’t get screwed by Love the Pain.

But if you get seduced by one of their rad designs and send them money you will probably:

  1. Not hear from them for months.
  2. Receive excuses for not communicating blaming email systems, etc.
  3. Receive numerous claims about “it’s in production” “its printing on Tuesday” etc. and most of it will not be true.
  4. Have email communications with some of the most arrogant people selling tri kit: Everything we do is correct - you fool. (It feels like that.)
  5. You might get what you saw on the website and you might not. Its more like a lottery purchase: Just send them some money and see what you get!!!

I don’t love that kind of pain.

ummmm.

Welcome, see the thread linked above. There are many of us whom have gotten screwed by Love The Pain. Want custom? Emilio is on the forums, DeSoto sport has great kit. Wattie Ink, OwnWay, Epix are others as well.

*Wattie Ink Hit Squad Athlete

I have no idea how they stay in business honestly. If you want to buy a great kit, I recommend Kiwami. Great stuff, easy to work with… not Painful.

EXACTLY…totally agree. Kiwami is great. They’ll even send you a little pack of Jelly Bellys!!!

I like their designs and really want to buy their Colorado themed suit, but I’ve never heard ANYONE say anything good about them. I really don’t want to take the risk.

First off, wow, this and the other thread…yeah they are terrible.

I do not get your point at all here. how are the two phrases above any different at all? Seems like their crappy policy is pretty clearcut.

that is funny.

You didn’t think about reading reviews on custom and/or expensive gear before you purchase? Granted, I’m poor, but I ALWAYS scan reviews.

I literally have never heard a good thing about LTP. Not only that in a sport where douchiness is already supreme they take it up a notch. Don’t get the appeal.

Same… the whole world of tri is out there beyond ‘here’… so maybe there’s enough out ‘there’ to keep them afloat.

My wife, not a member here, was looking at one of their cute kits and got a hit on the thread here about how awful they are.

Lastly, they changed my order without my permission. They claimed it was “an upgrade” but the suit I ordered I ordered specifically for the open mesh material they showed on the website. The “upgrade” swapped for a heavy, cheap looking material and hardly breathable.

To be fair to Love the Pain, it’s possible the material was thinner when “Gus” was wearing it.

Another victim.

Maybe Slowman should make the PSA thread a stickied post.

Why complain to the state? Just file a dispute with your CC company. The process is purposely made easy to get money back from merchants who try to give you the run around. The process is also very penalizing to the merchant, so just the threat of filing a dispute against them (assuming they know they are in the wrong…and sometimes even if they aren’t sure) should get favorable action from them.

https://www.verifi.com/in-the-news/much-chargeback-fee/

In any type of dispute where a credit card is used (this is why I almost always pay by card), you simply be professional and document all of the communication, and give the merchant a fair shot at making things right. If they refuse, the simplest thing is to just notify the merchant you will be filing a dispute with your issuing bank. Give them maybe 1-2 days to see if that does anything, and if not, go ahead and file it.

The thing to remember about a credit card dispute from the merchant’s end is that if they don’t respond to it, they lose. So ignoring the situation, or continuing to give the run around, is of no value to them. It also costs them money every time a dispute is processed. It takes time and effort for the issuing bank and acquiring bank to process a dispute…and they pass that cost onto the merchant. So if I’m a merchant and I know I’m in the wrong, it’s best for me to just make it right with the customer directly then to go through the dispute process…as it will just end up costing me more…a lot more.
