I use to think it was just me. Everytime I start ramping up the miles and yards in the pool getting ready for another IM, I get hornier. Until some friends of mine mentioned the same thing happens to them everytime IM peak season training comes up.
Could it be increased testosterone levels in the body from increased stress level from the longer distances? Could it be the better diet during IM training? Could it be excitement of the upcoming race? Do women get the same effect? I’d ask my doctor but he would just think I’m crazy, so I’ll put it out to the STer’s. What do you think, medically speaking?
Reading the book “Lore of Running”, by Tim Noakes, he states that one of the signs when you are in your peak is that your sex drive increases a lot. Not sure if that is your case though.
I’ve read that long endurance sports actually decreases the level of testosterone. i don’t know if that’s really true…but that’s what I’ve read. I’m sure there will be plenty of people here who will say it’s BS.
That’s actually a good question for your doctor, seriously. My gf is in med school, when she’s in clinics, she asks people everything, including about sex life. You shouldn’t be embarrassed to bring up anything to your doctor.
But back to the topic, I think my energy is more directed when I’m training, but for the most part, I’m pretty much the same person all the time, just say go and I’m probably ready.
It does for me. The more miles I put, the hornier I get because the combination of large amount of time spent in my tri shorts, either the tightness or looseness of the shorts, the vaseline or blistershield…sort of rubs my General to a constant saluting.
Let´s just say that if IM-training makes you hornier you´re probably not training hard enough…
But as long as we´re on the subject of training, sex and hormones a very good and trusted golden nugget of information is to increase sex whenever performance (athletic, that is…) goes down. Heading into overtraining can often be prevented if one stimulates the production of testosteron hence having sex…
But like one famous triathlete said about pre-race sex: “If you can get it, you gotta take it”

I need to find a race this weekend, I sense a PR coming (no pun intented)…
