Exactly. If you can remove a bottle from a cage on your downtube while still aero, then you can remove this bottle the same way.
Here are some pictures of my “generic” cage (sorry the bike is not waxed/polished for the pics) :

I don’t get it. From the few pictures I can see online, it simply looks to be an aerobar-mounted bottle cage. Is there more to it than that?
Yes there is more to it and it does not have to do with hydration.
Just be careful about the type of bottle you put there.
You will probably benefit from it even if you never ever drink from that bottle.
But cj and Tom already knew that ;- ).

Just saw this on eBay . . . hope it’s ok to post this link here.
that cage seems to have holes in the right places for the zipp ties. What kind is it?

Wish I could remember where I bought it or what brand – I’ve had it for a few years. I know it didn’t cost more than about $5 though…I just remember adding a couple to an order to have a few extra cages. Good luck.
So if we were to populate the cage with a rounded top, dimpled water bottle…
I’m as much of an aero weenie as the next guy… but this is where I’ve got to call shenanigans.
The difference between this and a seat tube mounted bottle has got to be in the nano-second range.
I left this out.

Believe it or not, it’s actually faster than a “clean” setup.
what does a “clean” set up look like.
are you trying to tell me that having a bottle on your aero bars is faster than having no bottle at all? Highly unlikely unless you have a propeller on the thing…
Unfortunately, yes. I’m trying to tell you that having a bottle on your aero bars is faster than having no bottle at all.
And no, you don’t have a propeller on it.
Shenanigans!!!
Honest!
it is in fact been show to be faster IF: your arms are narrow, horizontal (absolutly no pointing down) and that the bottle is well place and kind of shelter by the arms…
this set up is faster than no bottle so basicly, ride a empty bottle if you dont want to drink but make sure you have a bottle there.
The point to remember and i see everyone going for this bottle right now on slowtwtich, i m pretty sure most of these people wont gain anything from this as there arm position isnt approriate. VERY NARROW and horizontal witht the bottle shelter inside.
“VERY NARROW and horizontal witht the bottle shelter inside.”
More narrow than the width of the bottle? …ie so the bottle can’t fully sit between as I’ve pictured, rather more on top as the VisionTech stock photo shows?? Good stuff, thanks jonny.
i like your set up, it s nice! it s hard to say because i dont see exactly how your arms are but it seems pretty good. I use s-bend and my hands are sheltring the bottle perfectly at the front so you dont see the bottle… in your case, i think because of the aerobar position, your hands will be resting over the bottle???
i will try to take a pic of mine
I see what you’re saying. Yeah I’m not sure how well my hands cover the lid up front…but tomorrow I’ll snap a pic or two with my arms on the bars…now I’m curious.
