Random question. I’m getting married this weekend (WOOT! WOOT!) and I’m just curious if you wear your wedding rings during training and/or races. I’m assumption is that most don’t but I’ve never really paid attention.
I’m not that type of guy that wears necklaces, watches, rings and etc. so this is new to me. When I was into kickboxing and grappling, a lot of guys didn’t wear rings because they would get smashed and gauged into your finger. Thus you would have to make an ER visit.
This sport is very different so I’m just curious. It seems like all the sweat would make it annoying and uncomfortable. If you don’t, do you just leave it at home?
If I’m running or biking, I keep it on. I take it off for swimming, mostly because the ring is a smidgeon too big and it blocks my pinky finger from resting flush against my ring finger (detrimental to an efficient swim stroke). That means no ring for triathloning.
Yes. I never even notice it anymore than i notice I have a nose or all 10 fingers. Its’ just there.
However, my first year married I took it off as it was pretty loose especially in cold water and after loosing 10lbs after getting married. But then I downsized it and always keep it on now. It’s tight enough that I can just barely slide it over my knuckle with some discomfort.
In fact, I wear TWO wedding bands … Gold on the Left hand and Silver on the Right hand; just in case I find myself chatting up some dyslexic bimbo somewhere along the line
When I got married (10 years ago yesterday…anniversary shout out to my wife!), I was a big fat fatty. Now I’m a svelt shell of what I used to be. My wedding ring is very loose & needs to be adjusted (being two tone gold/platinum, it’s not that easy). When I swim, it falls right off, so I remove it. I still run & bike with it on, but for races, I take it off. The last thing I want is for it to end up down a pool drain or at the bottom of a lake.
If it fit me tighter, I would wear it because I never take it off.
I would never wear it biking. Google a degloved finger. But you may not care about that if you crash.
Many years ago someone on ST crashed and got degloved. You can probably search and find the details but imo, you can always put the rung on after you ride but it’s a lot harder to do a skin graft than put a ring on after a few hours of riding.
When I was married my wedding ring would come off in water. I usually just hooked it on my watch strap for racing, left it in my bag when swimming and left it next to my car keys when riding.
Similar to Meathead, I’m quite a bit smaller than when I got married, and I’ve got one of those non-sizable rings. Training/racing is the only time the ring comes off, it’s just too easy to lose when running or swimming. I used to wear it, but one time I heard that tingtingting of my ring bouncing down the road.
I never wear it while swimming (and therefore never during a race). It feels like it might slip off in the water, and I’ve heard stories about people losing their rings during a swim. I just leave it on my dresser at home or put it in my shorts/pants pocket and leave it in the locker when I’m at the pool.
For a bike ride and/or run, I leave it on.
FWIW, I’d always take it off and put it in my flight suit pocket when I was flying. Some sort of safety briefing about guys having their fingers torn off when the ring got caught on a canopy rail or something.
Nope. Worried about losing it. I have to keep mine large enough I can get it on and off easy (working on ships, no rings allowed, nor do I want to risk losing a finger)
First of all, congratulations on getting married! I for one don’t wear my ring when I do anything active. To me it’s just not worth the risk of getting it caught on something and injuring myself, or worse, losing it.
My wife actually showed me this website the other day www.qaloring.com , I worry about losing my ring all the time, especially since it no longer fits. I resized it once, and it cost half as much as the ring (titanium… there is no resizing just a replacement…). So I might go that route for a while until my weight settles.
I don’t wear it while swimming (and therefore racing) or when weight lifting. But my darn tan line makes it painfully obvious that I usually wear one, so it doesn’t help me to pick up chicks.
I always wear mine because its stuck on my finger! it will never come off. but I never think about it anymore its just there and will not affect my racing and training
