I don’t use the wrist strap on my Tyr Catalyst paddles. The Strokemaker directions say (in all caps, no less) to not use them w/o the wrist strap. What’s the consensus?
Funny - My swim coach specifically told me not to use the wrist strap on my Strokemaster paddles. She said I’d be more sensitive to imperfections in my pull if I didn’t have the wrist strap holding the paddle in place. Go figure.
I use them with.
I don’t use the wrist strap on any swim paddle. By not using the wrist strap, you are forcing your stroke to stabilize the paddle against your hand as you pull. I learned about it many, many years ago at a coaching clinic given by Richard Quick.
I just looked the paddles up, they don’t look to be any different. I don’t see why you would need to use the wrist strap. I’ve always gone without wrist for the same reasons listed above.
That’s the paddle i use, and have never used the wrist strap. I 100% agree with javelinguy that to get the most out of pulling drills and swimming, take off the strap. It is kind of like speedplay pedals, there is lots of room to move, but if you do so in the wrong way, it immediately penalizes you, and forces you to use good technique…What i do is to double strap my middle finger so that it won’t come off or slip out.
No wrist strap

Strokemaster? Or strokemaker?
Yes, no wrist strap. Forces you to learn to apply pressure to the water in the correct fashion. Make an error and the paddle will move from your hand or fall off.
No wrist strap.
