Do you keep a shrine of your personal accomplishments?

I stole the idea from the Lance’s house thread.

I don’t think it’s uncommon for many of the people in here to have a healthy load of awards of some sort. Do you display them?

Personally my shrine is down to a trophy, a cup, a medal, and a weird chunk of marble with a faceplate on it. They are on a bookshelf full of knickknacks and books, and I don’t think you’d notice them unless you were looking. Basically one represents high school, one for college, one for road racing in my 30s, and one is an IM finisher’s medal. Anything else I’ve gotten is in a box in storage somewhere. I’ve been meaning to donate them, or throw them out or something.

Neither me nor my wife have our degrees framed or displayed or anything.

Interesting side note, at least where I grew up, you more or less either won awards at every road race you went to, or you didn’t (fwiw, its been years since I’ve placed in an age group). Like if you could run a sub 18min 5K in your 30s, you got awards. If you were over 19m, you didn’t. There was a big push in the local running community to get away from trophy/medal awards and to get something useful, like a gift certificate or a pair of running shorts.

No.

Shrine, no. I do put some of the more significant plaques I’ve gotten up on a wall in my private office where almost no one who visits ever goes. Just for my own benefit. I only did that recently…I was cleaning out my garage, found the box where I tossed them all, and decided I should either throw them out or put them up. Couldn’t quite get up the nerve to throw them out…some good memories.

I have all my Ironman and bike racing medals on a dowel to hang up but they are laying on the bed in the guest bedroom. Maybe someday I’ll put them upstairs in the “sports” room/Predators shrine.

I’m double-dipping the dorkiness here.

At my wife’s urging, I have a Marine Corps, “I love me wall”, and I have probably 2/3 of my race stuff hanging up on a dowel and shelf in the basement, the other 1/3 in a pile.

I don’t have any personal accomplishments so don’t have to worry about it.

I’ve got a “Perfect attendance” for vacation bible school when I was 5. I have it proudly hung on the otherwise barren wall in my study.

nothing.

all my running and duathlon trophies are in a box in the basement. i used to have them in my office at work, but i now have my own business and work from home and they are kept out of sight.

i have no idea where my degree or PhD certificates are. Could be a bit of a problem, but i expect i could find them with a bit of effort. i used to have the certificate showing i was a pharmacist in a frame as it had to be displayed where i worked, but i think the frame broke long after i stopped doing locum work. i expect that is also in the basement - if i ever need it.

a little sad that the only evidence of my accomplishments is in 2 boxes in the basement. Thanks Barry!

My college degree is in a manila envelope in a drawer somewhere, along with the equivalent of my HS transcripts. I’ve only ever had to provide it to one employer (current one).

All my race medals are in a box on a shelf on my workbench. I cut the ribbons off them, need to glue magnets on the backs to make beer fridge magnets.

It took me over 3 years to frame my IM Wales 2016 medal/bib/pic (I had the frame almost that whole time), and it’s still not hung on a wall. I also keep meaning to get a frame for my first 140.6 medal/bib etc in 2015, maybe this will be the year!

On my desk I do have an ‘Outstanding Performance’ award for Q1 2005 from a startup I worked for back then, I only have it there because I find it amusing - it’s the baby from The ‘Incredibles’ stuck on a wooden base with a little brass plate on the front.

Nope. Somewhere is my diploma and all of my wifes degrees. They aren’t up though.

I’ve got a HUGE pile of finishers medals next to my swim fins. I occasionally post You Tube vids showing off all of my medals.

No, yes, maybe…?

I have a shadow box that my wife gave me as a gift of my first IM. Oddly enough it has never really been put on display anywhere in the house. I have a blanket that my wife and mother-in-law made out of a bunch of race T-Shirts. That’s usually around somewhere, on the couch etc. But we use it when it’s cold, so not on display for display purposes.

The only other thing I can think of are some coasters that were the race medals. A local race donated the proceeds to some childrens cause and those kids painted scenes of races on a piece of ceramic tile and turned them into coasters. Not only a really cool idea but also functional. So those are around.

Everything else from HS, races etc etc…couldn’t even tell you were they where. In fact if my wife is not looking I typically toss mine in the trash.

Predator shrine? It’s a pretty good movie, but . . .

Fun topic.

Most of my stuff is in a box somewhere; I never got around to framing any of my diplomas. But I keep my top tier mementos up for motivational purposes. My favorite is this. Mrs sphere couldn’t for the life of her understand why I’d put that up on the wall, but I thought it was fairly obvious.

Not that I had a lot, but I threw them all away when participation medals became a thing. It used to be that a trophy meant something back in the day.

It used to be that when you saw a trophy on someone’s shelf, there was a bit of a story behind it. Something was won.

Not anymore.

.

Yes - trash can.

Yes, I have a wall full of print outs of every argument I’ve won on the Internet. It’s a yuge wall.

No. My wife found my high school jersey and had it framed. I didn’t enjoy college football.
I quit after my second year and didn’t save the jersey.

Any race finish medals are tucked away in a drawer somewhere. Same with diplomas.

My basement room has a non-working fireplace in it, so the mantle is a good place for any cool (to me) knickknacks. I have a few old race trophies on it, some cool mugs that were given out as race swag/awards. There used to be a brewery in Rhode Island with my last name, so I have a few cans, bottles etc displayed there. Also stuff like signed pucks, a foul ball that I caught during a Sox game, just little stuff like that.

We have a bunch of trophies and plaques in our home gym, plus a giant pile of race medals on a shelf, also in the gym.

Some fond memories associated with them. Bygone days though…
