Do you hot tub after swimming?

People in my masters class swear by it. Is there a benefit to jumping in the hot tub after swimming. I see it in the Olympics, world championships etc…

I do.

The bubbles hide my pee better.

(its a big hot tub)

Yup.

Yup.

interesting, why though?

Cuz it’s feels so good after a hard swim. Why fight it?

  • feels good
  • social
  • warm
  • hang out in a hot tub with girls from masters?

What’s not to like?

Before is pretty good too. Read some study that shows it is, essentially, a muscle ‘warm up.’

does it have any “Real” advantages?

“Real” as in physiological benefit to training? Other than muscle relaxant, I doubt it.

Real. It was in the NSCA journal I subscribe to. It’s been duplicated all over the place. Same reason it helps with diabetes.

Best part of swim team is the hot tub before and after.

helps with diabetes? how? type 2?

Only if the divers have their nice little hot tub out. The hot tub at the rec pool I swim at sometimes is a germ swamp…

Benefit to it? Ice is better after workouts than heat! So I wouldn’t think so.

I go neck deep to get my shoulders.

Mostly though I use it for planta fascitis stretching as I can flex the foot without putting as much pressure on my knees.

I have a hot tub at home and use it after bike and run work outs too. It seems to help the recovery process…and it feels good.

nope
.

I used to when the gym had a hot tub.

I’ve read that swimming lowers your core temp, and when this happens it triggers a response in your body that you should eat, your body wants calories. Your body’s system doesn’t know that this is temporary and you’ll warm up soon. This is why people are so hungry after swimming, even though they might not have burned tons of calories.

The hot tub warms up your body quickly and might save you from over doing it on the post workout meal.

makes sense to me. Wish my new gym had a tub.

nope. skin is dry enough from the pool chlorine, I don’t need to soak it in a hot chemical broth as well…

I used to until I decided that it shortens the life of my Speedo by at more than 50%. Hot tub = 2 months life span. No hot tub = 6 months.
