I think I do. Uncles, aunts, grandparents…all lived to 85+ . No genetic diseases. We all have university degrees so some decent brain genes too, and are fairly athletic. I just wish we have a bit better genes for height. I am also a white male, don’t know if it matters. I also have good jeans, Levi 501.
All the women on my mothers side lived into their mid to late 90’s. Great grandmother was 102. Unfortunately they also all get dementia. Mother just turned 80. No signs of dementia yet but her sister, about 5 years older has it. Grandfather was 86 and was doing great until he got hit by somebody in a car accident. Broke his pelvis and when downhill pretty rapidly from there. Think most of it was the fact he couldn’t drive anymore and was stuck in the house with my grandmother.
Probably better than average, no great family history of cancer, heart disease, autoimmune diseases. Grandmother lived to be over a hundred. My parents are 80 and still functioning well. My two brother are both overweight and out of shape and no heart disease yet in their 50s.
Real risk seems to be dementia, all 4 of my grandparents went out not knowing a soul. But then again, maybe that’s just a sign that they outlived their bodily health.
Very little athleticism so I worked hard to be a mediocre triathlete for a long time. History of dementia in my mother’s side which will probably get me eventually. Neither of my parents made 90 and I don’t think any of my grandparents did either.
Other than that, I’ve been remarkably healthy. When I fill out a health history for a doctor there really isn’t much there. I’ve never been on long term prescriptions. Dog bite, bike accidents and a colonoscopy is my entire history of trips to a hospital. At 61 I’ve never had a surgery or spent a night in a hospital.
For modern life I think so.
Almost no cancer in our immediate or extended family. A couple heart attacks from smokers and those with really bad diets. My dad’s parents lived to 88 and 96, dad is 99. My mom’s parent’s died in their 70’s but were very overweight. My mom died early from Parkinson’s, not real good evidence that is genetic. 9 kids in my family, 3 sisters in a row were valedictorians, all but one with college degrees, several with multiple. One brother is an asshole but that seems more nurture than nature.
For ancient life, I can lift really heavy stuff but if I had to chase my food it is getting away. I might have to be a vegetarian.
