Do you have a running mantra?

.

Normally mine is “Please oh please don’t stroke out on this run”
.

Mattew 17:20
Those with faith, small as a mustard seed, can say to this mountain…move from here to there and it will be done. Nothing will be impossible for you.

Donuts…beer…ben n jerry’s…cheesesteaks…burgers…beer…ben n jerry’s…nutella…mounds bars…snickers…chocolate chip cookies…chocolate cake…beer.

Or some variation upon that general theme.

Edit: I guess if I’m being serious… “It’s just a feeling”.

That’s a variation of one of my mantras

“the trial of miles; miles of trials” from once a runner

i found myself saying it over and over again one run and spent the whole 2 hours thinking about it! perfect mantra, because it actually created that transformation of thought!

…that and french fries dipped in milkshake

French fries in a milk shake?? Dude I’m not a picky eater but that’s downright deranged!! Let the bashing begin

All for me beer and tobacco!

great quote… now I have a shanty for the run

Here we go for hookers and blow!

one, two, three, four
sometimes five
.

And it’s all for me grog me jolly, jolly grog
All for my beer and tobacco
Well, I spent all me tin with the ladies drinkin’ gin
Far across the Western Ocean I must wander

I’m sick in the head and I haven’t been to bed
Since first I came ashore with me plunder
I’ve seen centipedes and snakes and me head is full of aches
And I have to take a path for way out yonder
.

click on my race team link and look at the top right of the screen…

Got Grog? is on the A$$ of our shorts.

Not a verbal one. I just replay in my head the chords from the verse of My Generation over and over.

At the end mine is ‘balance’. I was told by a former Olympian in the 5k who still does some consulting that balance is everything. Once you lose your balance and start wobbling, it’s over.

Winners don’t even know they’re in a race.
They just love to run.

“the trial of miles; miles of trials” from once a runner

I’ve found myself thinking about that one a lot recently.

My own favorite is:

“Easy doesn’t necessarily mean slow.”

As long as I’m being honest with myself about the effort I’m expending, I don’t need to force myself to slow down. Helps me to relax and maintain good form on easy/recovery runs.

That one pops into my head as well although lately I find myself going a bit more off the reservation. On my long runs I’m all about natural disasters. Going up hills I try to get a mental picture of a Tsunami washing onto shore and going downhill I’m a mudslide…that and I find myself getting an acute case of tourette’s depending on the level of pain I’m experiencing.

I don’t have time for mantras… I’m too busy counting my footfalls per breath.
