Do you feel your insole against your arch when running?

I was wondering if I should be feeling my insole against my arch when runner. Currently I only feel my heel and forefoot, actually I’m not sure I have every felt my arch in a pair of shoes!?!? I have a mid to high arch. Just to clarify I have no foot problems as of now. I just want to make sure I take care of my feet so as to prevent any future problems. If I should be feeling my arch is it as simple as buying new insole? If so what should I be looking at!?!?

Has any of you used these? Sole Heat Moldable Custom Footbeds

Thanks,
Sonny

Seems like you are new to running based on the question. First - welcome to the fold. Second - I think you may be over-analyzing it. The foot was not designed with the insole in mind… know what I mean? So, unless you feel some sort of injury coming on - just run and enjoy!

MY insole against YOUR arch? Nope.

Damn! Beat me to it.

I don’t feel YOUR arch when walking or cycling, not to mention running.

I tried them and really found them to be beneficial when running. I am going to try them on the bike as well in the near future.

My bad…I’ve corrected the subject.

I’m not exactly new to running, but I might very well be over-analyzing things a bit. I just hear a lot about runners suffering from Plantar Fasciitis (sp) and/or heel problems and their causes be attributed to poor foot support!?!? My in-laws are lifelong runners and they both now have to use Orthotics in their running shoes. My wife is also now using them (she’s been running about 10 years). So I figured if I could start getting better support now it might pay off in the future. I’m just not sure how to tell if I have enough arch support or not (the reason for the question)!?!?

I can’t answer whether or not you need to get new insoles/should have arch support, etc. But I do use the Sole inserts. When I first put them on it felt really weird to feel my arch against the insole of the shoe. Before I did my first run in them, I was positive that they were going to give me blisters or I would hate them. Once I got going, I totally forgot about them and over time it’s been weird to run without them (new shoes or whatnot.) I have no idea if the support on the arch is helpful or not, but since it hasn’t seemed to bother me over the last six months that I’ve been using them, I figure they aren’t hurting me!

No.

Car analogy?

The front wheels (forefoot) and rear wheels (heel) touch the road. The suspension (your insole) doesn’t touch the ground.

You’re probably not feeling a lot of support in your arches because the arch support of your running shoes are too low. You need insoles that provide high arch support so that they cup your arches and prevent your feet from flattening out. I’ve used these insoles for a year and a half now and they make a huge difference in how I run:

You have to replace insoles every six to eight months depending on how much you run, but it’s well worth the costs.

I’ve got super high arches, and I hate having insoles that touch the inside of my arch. My ski boot foot beds look like an art project gone awry. I tried out the Shoe Dog custom insoles at Road Runner Sports yesterday and hated the feeling of anything molded to my foot. Perhaps its an issue of getting used to it? I ran injury-free in the same make/model of running shoes for a decade, and they were discontinued a couple years ago. My supply has run out, and I can’t find anything I like. Arrgh.

Personally, I love my insoles however I have heard that lots of people need time to adjust to the feeling of that kind of support, but no doubt, they are much better for your feet. Over time, without proper support, your arches flatten out and running becomes painful. The best way to combat that is with insoles that apply pressure to your feet and essentially hold them together. When your young, you don’t notice the damage your doing but as time wears on, your feet become more sensitive. I’m sure that if you give the right pair of insoles time to adjust, you would find them very beneficial.

alternatively - i have etremely flat feet, and i run in shoes with zero arch - either huaraches or NB minimus trails. works for me, but it did take months to develop the right strength in my leg + foot muscles. i’ve always had flat feet.
