Do holes in a wetsuit slow you down? Xterra Vortex - time for a new suit?

I have an Xterra Vortex 4 sleeved wetsuit. I bought it back in 2014 when I was first starting triathlon.

I don’t get to swim in it a ton, but noticed recently that there are quite a few of the nail marks in the legs and then two nickle-sized holes in the arm pits where the sleeves connect to the torso.

I’ve ordered some wetsuit glue to patch the holes, but I’m wondering if it’s worth patching the holes or should I just upgrade to a new Roka wetsuit? Are these holes legitimately slowing me down? When I get done swimming I have quite a bit of water that has accumulated in my legs.

You should trade it in for a wetsuit with just 2 sleeves, it would be faster.

It was worth patching the hole for me. I have Vortex sleeveless and noticed a cut about an inch long. I used a glue that came with the wetsuit and it worked like a charm, so give it a try.

I’m not sure how much it slows you down, I’d guess not that much.

I have a bunch of little holes and nicks in my suit as well. But I really love my suit. I’ve patched it up a few times and it still looks good. It will be a little sad when it finally dies.
