Do blisters heal better bandaged or unbandaged?

In the few days after they have been popped/drained, do they heal faster if you put a bandaid over them and maybe an ointment of some kind or if you leave them uncovered and exposed to air?

Have you tried a hot shower?

Keep it covered while it’s still moist, since it can get infected pretty easily. After a couple days, once it has healed over a little, it should be fine to leave exposed to the air.
Of course, this really depends on the size, severity, and location of the blister.

One word: Moleskin

It’s the best stuff in the world for it. Really.

from all my time rowing, the only ones that did not heal or dry out quickly were the few i covered,
.

Clean it real well, then keep it uncovered.

Good advices all around. Thanks.

don’t pop them. They will heal better if you avoid breaking the blister sack.

x2. it also seems to me that it helps prevent future blisters in the same area.

Fastest way to get ride of them. Pop em cut all the loose skin off and not cover them. They hurt for a day but it let’s the freah skin dry out and you good to go

+1 that works the best for me too. some people dislike popping them though.

Not sure if all the comments are founded in actually medical practice. As a Army medic I have experanced blisters once or twice. Popping them isnt generally a good idea but ifs its popped then its not a big deal. There is actually acouple things you can do after this. First keep it covered during the day with some triple antibotics. Some mole skin with a hole cut out of the size of the blister will help padding. I like to use 3 inch medical tape, I feel it lasts throughout the day without peeling even in the heat of Iraq. When ever you can keep it uncovered, this will speed up the healing process. Another fix is the fake skin. Its a liquid that you put on the blister that provides a fake skin. It hurts alike a mother but will provide coverage. Look on webmd thats a pretty good source. Just make sure its clean so it doesnt get infected assuming that its been popped.

I think you only need to cover a blister if they are exposed to more friction.

Drain the blister only if it’s inflated to the point it becomes a pressure issue in your footwear. Resist the urge to cut away the cover. This exposes raw flesh that will be more sensitive to pressure & friction than the (now) dead skin that forms the blister cover. The best “bandage” is the plasma buffer & dead skin cover that’s there. I used to pop, peel, grin and bare it. I have since left blisters completely alone until they virtually fall off on their own. No pain, no suffering.

They scar less if covered and kept moist. Downside is it takes longer. They heal faster uncovered and exposed to air. They may, however, leave a small scar depending on how deep the wound penetrated.
