Looking for ideas on how to make a stand for bike maintenance and cleaning. Would need to clamp down on seat, as bike and seat post are carbon. Anyone build one? Pictures?
Thanks!

I clamp my aero carbon post in my stand all the time, if I couldn’t do that I certainly wouldn’t trust sitting on it.
But I think this is part of the reason people like using the bottom bracket style ones, I use a park psc-12 mounted on a bench so i Can’t help you with the DIY part just pointing out you should be able to clamp a carbon post safely.

Thats a awesome DIY Stand! Where’d you source the front fork bit? Whats under the BB? Very well done!

As with everything, you can get fork mounts from Amazon.
The BB stand looks like a custom piece of carbon-fiber composite. You know, “wood”.
…brilliant. I’m inspired to secure a fork stand into my workbench dog holes now.
I just found the pics on Google. It’s a basic sawhorse with a fork mount and a wood block, nothing complicated.

Great solution! Thanks for the pics and idea
consider using a speaker stand as well. Here’s my creation.
I considered a DIY one, but ended up getting this one from Amazon. It was a little cheaper when I bought it, but it works real well and is pretty reasonably priced.

wow very neat solution! I already have an older PCS-1 that I picked up for like 40 bucks way back when so I’m not in the market but I’d definitely consider building one similar to yours if I needed a front axle/bb style one. Where did you get the brackets to hold the front axle/skewer piece?
Those I got when I was a student. I took a machine shop course and was able to use a lathe to make that dummy axle out of stainless steel. I found a pillow block in a scrap box in the shop too. I got the 80/20 again from the shop-some researchers mistakenly ordered the wrong size so this was up for grabs I guess. I’m not so sure this would have been sensible if I had to purchase all that new, but I knew what I wanted, had access to scrap, wanted to save money, and was willing to spend time. Surely it’s less refined than the Feedback Sports or Park products, but it meets my needs.
I did make one for father’s day too though. For that one I used a threaded axle I purchased off amazon and drilled some holes in an aluminium block to mount it to the 80/20. I used some spacers to make it work with front or dropouts. That was done only with a drill press. Still used that scavenged 80/20 though.
Obviously the lot of you aren’t real triathletes - real triathletes buy stuff. Not just any stuff either - the best stuff. So, by DIY Work Stand I think the OP meant Best Bike Stand Available, Price No Object.
Very neat idea! I’d be concerned about it getting knocked over though, isn’t it a bit high for that base? Have visions of children crashing into it and having a dilemma as to whether to tend to the child or the bike first…
OP asked for cheap, not perfect.
And this entertainment is free! Love the banter. I asked " Looking for ideas on how to make a stand " and some great ideas were given. Thanks to all!
I bought mine on Craigslist from a local cyclist cleaning out the garage. I wanted to do DIY, but found a used one for cheaper than I could build myself.
