Forgive me if this is a bit like elementary school show-and-tell but I thought some of you might be interested.
I fell madly in lust with the WinTech computer and bought one for my tri bike before realizing it is a stem mount computer. After mounting it on the stem of my tri bike and taking a few rides I could see that it wasn’t going to work for me. I was having to look straight down to see the computer and I just wasn’t comfortable with that. What I needed was a computer mount for my Syntace C2s but all of the available ones were for bar-mount computers.
I didn’t start out trying to make my own. I really just fantasized about having someone else make one for me so I started making a “prototype” of what I thought it should look like. The more I fiddled with it the closer it got to what I wanted and before I knew it I was done.
Congratulations! It looks like a great job! I am keen get a cycle computer and the Wintech is high on my list. Would appreciate if you can comment on your likes/dislikes about it and how it compares to some ot the other alternative products out there. Did you get it online? Have not found it to be available online yet. Tks.
Good job on the Wintech computer mount. I have toyed with the diea of making my own mount for mine for the same reasons you have stated. I may have to do the bunnyman treatment of it…
I have just bonded a piece of carbon pipe to the front clamp of my stem in order to get my Wintech in a more comfortable place to view. Photos will come when it’s all finished.
looks cool, good work, yeah its funny how something like a computer mount can generate such a varied spectrum of different models. My Pringle was my first attempt at the computer mount, if you havent seen it go to www.norcalracers.net/id18.html
To All, Thanks. I appreciate all of the positive feedback.
jeremyb, I did see your pringle. Nice work. I guess it’s a common thing for good ideas to be born out of frustration.
6iron, I did get the WinTech online through Colorado Cyclist. I bought the version with cadence and my LBS only had the version without. I’m not sure if everyone is still having problems with supply, but they were selling out quickly once they were received.
I love the WinTech. It has basic functionality, which is what I wanted. I had received a CicloSport 436m for xmas but it was way more than I wanted. My only frustration with it was that it is only a stem mount, there’s no option for bar mount. I’ve solved that one, though. One other thing that caused me a little consternation was with the range of the skewer transmitter. I ride a 57cm and with the skewer pointed horizontally and the computer mounted on my stem there was no problem. It picked up the signal just fine. When I mounted the computer on my DIY aero mount, it was out of range of the skewer transmitter. Interestingly, it was still in the cadence transmitters range. I solved this by turning the skewer vertically so that it is pointed at the computer. It’s a bit dorky but it works. A little thing that I think is really cool is that the cadence magnet does not have to be zip-tied to the crank. It is round and the perfect size to sit in the recess of the pedal spindle. It actually sticks to the pedal spindle itself. Would this be a problem for titanium spindles? Would a magnet stick to them? I don’t know. I think it does have sticky tape on it as well.
Yeah, i made it. Its the curve from the side of an old tupperware container. I had to get the dremel out and cut off the bottom of the computer mount (cause it had the plastic ring that went around to attach to your bars) and made the bottom flat with the dremel, than used industrial double sided tape to attach the computer to the Pringle.
btw I got a bottle cage in the works that will make the weight weenies piss their pants.
