I bought black ABS plastic sheeting on ebay to make my cover. Wheelbuilder sells the hardware to attach the cover on their website.

When I used a disc cover:

I taped the drive side to the spokes with duct tape
I taped the outer edge of the drive side cover to the rim with black electrical tape
I taped the outer edge of the non-drive side cover to the rim with black electrical tape and nothing else.

Worked well for years.

But what material for covers?

I used black fiberglass sheet. Think it is .010" so 0.25mm thick. Lighter and stiffer than plastic but more easily broken. If you are in the US I’ll try and scrounge up where I bought the stuff… think it was ~$70 for the material.

Use 3m electrical tape, not screws.

I’d still go with something like these:

They’re only $98. I have a set that are 10 years old and still just fine.

Best to use electrical tape. And get the high temperature kind. Some of the regular tape gets mushy in the sun.

Here is my take on making my own. I used 1mm ABS sheet.
