I know the weight vs aero topic has been covered well with respect to disc wheels on hilly courses. I know the Chattanooga course for the 70.3 WC is going to be very hilly. I am about to make my shipping plans, and wondering if I should use the 808 or Super 9. Any strong opinions against the disc at this venue?
Disc always.

I wouldn’t say that course is very hilly. There is a hill. One hill that you will think about. And those extra 8 seconds that disc will cost you in weight there will get blown out on the decent from that hill. There’s about 25 miles that look pretty damn flat where a disc is going to give you a big edge.
If you’re still worried about it, ship your disc, and if you decide to not ride it I will for ya!
If you have both, use the disc. Not that big of a deal though, an 808 or ENVE 7.8 rear is likely VERY close. I venture to say 90% of the pros will be on discs. I am riding a 7.8 and don’t feel I am giving up much at all, probably 20-40sec.
same dilemma here
Since I am coming from Europe, and will be based in LA for a 20 days prior to the race it’s easier for me to take one back wheel (lot’s of riding in LA also) and it will probably be 808NSW
I am OK with up to the minute of loss, I will just swim faster

Can’t say I have ever seen “808NSW” followed by a “:(”
.
I’m planning on the disc.
Disc always.
Double always. Use it until they MAKE you take it off.

This looks to me like a pretty flat course, with one LARGE hill. I will be running a disc (well, covered rear wheel). That one hill isn’t going to slow everyone down that much.

Wonder what they will allow / disallow (penalize) as far as “drafting” goes on that hill. I would think it may be hard to keep gaps on a hill like that?
On hills like that, they never make a drafting call, nor should they. At those uphill speeds, drafting affects are minimal and cyclists will bunch up.
Maybe a blocking call.
Disc. For sure.
How long and steep is that hill?

Looks like 3 miles? There is another climb soon after, not as severe but another good 3 miles. Just put on the 12-28 cassette for the last few weeks of hill grinding in preparation.

It’s about 3 miles long with an average grade of 6%. So it’s a significant climb, but after that things flatten out. The course rises a bit more, but then it’s flat to downhill back to town for about 40 miles.
3mi @ 6% disc for the win… maybe with 11/25T cassette and it’s a go.
