Dimension stems? 17 degree stems?

I am looking for a 17 degree stem. So far, I’ve found Ritchey and Dimension. Dimension stems is sold on www.triathlete.com, see link below.

Are these stems decent? The price is quite attractive.

I know the Ritchey products are quite good, but the price is more than double the Dimension brand. Are there any other 17 degree stem options?

Thanks.

Matt

I’m pretty sure Oval Concepts has a 17 degree stem … and their 4-bolt face plate arrangement is really slick.
.

dimension is QBP’s house-brand. they are cheap, and come in any size ya need. made in china or god-knows-where, probably by enslaved 7 year olds - the same ones who make 90% of tri-bikes. i use em on occasion ( the stems, not the 7 year olds . . . ) , and they seem to hold the handlebars in one place just fine. i wouldn’t put on on a vanilla, but if you ride a generic pacific rim whatever frame why the hell not ?

I have the Ritchey 17 degree carbon stem on my new road bike. I’m sure it cost more then it’s worth but it does look nice. It came with the build kit.

I found Ritchey Pro stem on performance for under $40. That being said, I’m sure the Dimension offers little less than the Ritchey Pro.

You get what you pay for with a dimension stem. The steerer tube clamp on them tends to be pretty tall. It’s about 4 cm on a ritchey, probably closer to 6 on a dimension, but I don’t have one in front of me to measure. If you’re buying this stem to go low in front, you’re probably better off with a ritchey.

From an engineering (materials science) standpoint, I feel more comfortable and confident on a stem that features a 4 bolt handlebar retainer like the Ritchey or Oval.
