my first digital camera was this bad boy, circa 1998:

Sweet! What did it use for file storage? The first digital camera I used was for work and it used a floppy disk!

My shop and tech class (part of the wheel) in Jr High had a CNC machine and a digital camera that used a 3.5 floppy disk. I remember thinking both were super cool. And for Jr. High in 1992, I am pretty sure it was.

Imagine designing the first of something that ultimately changed an industry only to have the company piss away because it ultimately didn’t capture the market. Kodak had 1.04 billion in total revenue last year, according to Google AI, the SLR camera market in 2024 was 3.2 to 5.2 billion. I would be really curious what the internal discussions were in the mid 90s when they could have been building a completely new industry instead of selling the technology to other manufacturers.
