I don’t know if my sinus has some sort of inborn deformity, but I am experiencing difficulty breathing through my left nostril. The right nostril is fine.
Does anyone have any cure for this problem? Oxygen intake is critical to aerobic performance.
I’ve tried netti pot and water definitely flows easier from the right nostril to the left than the reverse.
When you swim, do you only breathe on the right side? Could possibly be an allergic reaction to something in a pool or lake. I actually have this issue swimming in a local lake.
I swim bilaterally. Most likely just an inbalance in my sinus. Could be an allergic reaction but the left nostril is far more problematic than the right one.
If it’s all the time, you could need sinus surgery. I could barely breath in or out of my left nostril for a long time. The right wasn’t great either…and I got constant sinus infections. Go to an ENT to find out.
Go to an ENT doctor for sure. I didn’t know I had a problem until I was around 18. I was a mouth breather, simply because I could not breathe through my nose consistently and not feel out of air after a little bit. I had a deviated septum (the wall between your nostrils is off to one side more than the other) and it literally did not allow me to breath. It changed my life. Normally, turbinates in our nose alternate swelling and contracting through the day, so you should be able to effectively breath out one side all the time, but it SHOULD alternate. If it doesn’t, I’d get it checked out - don’t be wary of the knife. It’s minimally invasive surgery if anything.

Most people have some difference in left right nostril balance. It is normal to favour one nostril or the other but generally most people’s nostrils take it in turns to be more dominant to airflow. Dominance is also affected by fatigue.
I have yet to finds a link between left leg right leg power dominance and left right nostril dominance due to a lack of subjects prepared to have one nostril blocked.
Generally left right nostril dominance can be corrected by getting a Pikey to punch you on the side of the mush which is less open to airflow.
A less painful method is to change the side you most predominantly sleep on.
Better still is take up snorting cocaine, in time it will even out the airflow.
Snort warm salted water, tends to shift all sorts of crap out of blocked sinuses.
You should definitely find out from a specialist, what the issue is. Just so you know, you won’t wake up one day and it will be gone.
I have this exact problem. Left nostril. My nose has been broken at least 4 times. As I aged, it started to bleed occasionally, at first, then all the time.
Start bleeding on your lady during sex, and it’s a problem. Yoga class, turned into a nightmare.
Went to tons of specialists. They would always do a cauterization and gradually, I’ve made lifestyle changes that minimize the problem.
I’ve had a deviated septum for several decades. When it is cold, you only see the air come out of the right side. I never get air through my left side of my nose. NBD. I’ve run IMs and many marathons. Always BQ. I’ve never entertained having surgery because it doesn’t hinder me.
Go to pharmacy and pick up some Nasocort Aqua. Start therapy while waiting to get in to see your ENT. If the therapy works, great, your cured. If not, your ENT will be able to document that you have failed medical therapy and immediately book a nasal airway surgery. PM me if you want more detailed info.
Pull your finger out. I used to have similar problems, but back then I was drinkin’ an’ smokin’ etc… Thank’s to fitness, and quitting all the bad intakes, all those sort of niggles have gone away. Thank you multisport
