Have searched the web and forum as well as the Selle Italia site. Was hoping someone could tell me the difference between these two saddles and if you ride them how you like them or not.
I want to swap out my stock saddle for something lighter and with a sexier profile.
The XP stands for extra padding, personally I don’t ride one but having looked at them both I would opt for the XP version for Tri’s, but then saddle choice is another individual choice, by the way the xtra padding doesn’t look much
.
The SLR has titanium rails whereas the SLR XP has vanox rails in addition to the extra padding. I like my SLR better as I don’t really like padded saddles and for some reason, the titanium rails flex in such a way that is more comfortable to me (both are clamped in the center of the rails on Thomson posts). I use an SLR saddle on both my slack and steep race bikes, in case you think it matters.

As the posts said, XP is for “extra padding”. It’s not much. I hated the SLR, love the SLR XP.
and “vanox” stands for a steel alloy, although they are hollow tubes, and very light, and they appear to be a type of stainless steel, but don’t quote me on that.
Selle italia actually returns e-mails, so you might write to them to get the info from the horse’s mouth…
Is yours a “Gel Flow” saddle? I didn’t think they made a non-gel version of the trans am. I am using a regular SLR right now with a DeSoto pad and it’s pretty good, but I have thought about trying the Gel Flow one with the cutout.
yes, selle italia did indeed (and may still, but i am not sure) make a non ‘gel’ or non ‘gel-flow’ SLR trans-am saddle (i.e., with a hole in it), as we have one in our household.
it looks a lot like an SLR xp with a hole, but with some of the leather cover sewn together (rather than all one-piece) and has the hollow steel ‘vanox’ rails and has a claimed ‘185 grams’ silk screened in gray on it…
