Any thoughts on drinking diet coke while training? (Not during workouts, but regularly during the day)
after a good run or ride, I crave diet coke…I just finished a 44oz (but filled to the top with ice) of caffeine free diet coke and I drink at least one or two regular diet cokes during the day…the more I train and the harder I train the more I crave the carbonation. I know it’s horrible for you but, there are worse things…guarantee if I stopped training my diet coke cravings would disappear…it’s weird…
If it is bad for you then I am a dead man walking. I drink diet soda all day. Sometimes even mix it with vodka as I may be doing now… If I hadn’t just got done running and swimming then I would want a diet soda. Now that I did just get doing said activities I am find the diet soda and it clear tasty buddy delish!
Easily my biggest vice in the world. I know it’s not good for me, but no other liquid seems to satisfy like a diet coke.

Diet coke leaches your bones of calcium.
Anything, and everything in moderation.
Diet coke ??..why not, mind if I add a shot of rum to that before I have any…its my off season
Sweet! I am trying to cut some weight.
I don’t know what it is about pop, but if I have one, I crave it like a crack fiend for days afterwards. Best to avoid it altogether. When I have a really big craving for pop, I find a club soda with some juice satisfies the craving and probably isn’t as bad for you as straight up coke.
That being said, a flat coke near the end of a long ride is like nectar of the gods. I swear that stuff can bring you back from the dead!
Been drinking it for many years. I gave it up for a summer a few years ago. Didn’t notice anything different.
I drink both diet coke and mexican coke after a hard ride or run. I think it helps me recover.

no way. terrible. that stuff will kill you.
now, diet Sunkist . . . HELL YEAH. 3 to 6 a day. i cry when i’m out. AFAIK, its the only non-cola diet soda that has caffiene.
in moderation, sure. Weird am the same as many here. I couldnt imagine just popping one open any other time, but after five plus hrs on the bike is exactly what I eant, well that if no gluten free beer available. Sigh, miss a good real craft beer. Ok will admit to sometimes cheating with a real beer. But yeah, gotta be diet coke, and in a can. If no cans, then skip it
I read about some recent research suggesting artificial sweeteners if eaten regularly for some time will cause the brain to regard anything sweet as non caloric. Ie you might end up eating more calories than you need and might gain weight. How this applies to training I don’t know, but I thought it was pretty interesting . I’m too lazy right now to find the paper. Might try to find it later.
Would you happen to have a link to that recent research or tell us where we can find it?
…and if you can find a drive thru after a long workout and can get a fountain dite coke with crushed ice = AWESOME!
