Its a trivia question that I need an answer to. We were talking about this the other night and I thought I saw an episode where he entered a triathlon, which at that time, could only have been IMH. Anybody remember that one or I am off base?
Yes. Someone has it on youtube. But it was a swim, run, bike and he DNF’s it during the bike chasing bad guys.
Absolutely! Magnum P.I., Thomas Magnum, is also a former Navy SEAL.
MAN, that guy is good-looking!
i bought magnum pi season 1 dvd set just for that episode!
he may not have finished but how many solve a crime while doing an ironman?
On the other hand, Laura Holt did finish her triathlon on Remmington Steele. (distance unknown)
I have seen this episode many times and always get a kick out of it. It is a joke. First of all it is DEFINITELY not IMH. It is a sprint distance at best. I think they even say in the episode that the run is 3 miles and the bike is 10 or something like that. He is actually biking through some nice palatial garden or something.
Hilarious. And yes it is a DNF. I love Magnum but who does that on a sprint distance tri anyways…c’mon. Catch the bad guys AND finish the race!
Magnum preferred to go sea kayaking. Especially on his birthday when it was his annual tradition to go really far out to sea to think for by himself. He also like to drive a red Ferrari around.
Not to mess with Demerley (forum royalty) but I think Magnum was “just” naval intelligence - not sure they ever mention teh SEALS. A lieutenant I belive. Not taht thomas Magnum couldn’t be a SEAL, he was the shit in the 80’s!
ok, major hijack here,
one of the best ones was when he was on his surf ski and got knocked off. I believe it was Home from the Sea. He has to tread water and keeps having flashbacks to his dad (Sgt. Getraer from CHiPs) making him tread water in their pool. He makes it 24 hours in the ocean just as Rick pick him up in the boat. My fav. one, and they never show it on the re-runs.
Yep, he was on his surf ski celebrating his 40th birthday and got knocked off and had to thread water while being pulled out to sea by the currents in between the islands. His buddy in the helicopter finally saved him.
I think you are right, I remember the “flashback” episode where he is a POW and escapes with rick and the black guy (forgot his name, the dude that flew the choppa). It was weird though because even though they were in “nam”, the guy torturing them was like a nazi or something like that. Great episode.
oh yeah, Thomas MAgnum definately could have been a SEAL if he wanted to!!!
TC, man, how could you forget TC’s name??
We spend a lot of time at “Magnum’s pool” - it’s a great kid beach about 10 min from home. That lovely guest house Magnum lived in is a wreck, a total tear down.
RR
He was both…Naval Intelligence and a SEAL.

Thanks! I still was on the “couch” back in the Magnum days and didn’t even know what an IM was. I seem to remember he was always doing open water swimming or kayaking. He was as KOOL as my brand of smokes back then
