Did IMC sign-ups go on-line last year?

Or did all slots fill up on-site?

There were a few on-line spots for the 2009 race. Not sure about 2010.

On-line was open for a few days last year. I know a few folks who got in.

Both 2009 and 2010 had sign ups available online, not exactly sure how many tho. One year it opened up again as those with vouchers from Monday morning in Penticton did not all end up signing up.

I got in for IMC 2010 online. However, I think it was only open for a couple hours. I do not think it remained open for 2 days like a couple posters stated. I could be wrong, but, I thought it closed after a couple hours.

I also believe that it was open very briefly - a few hours.

I just looked at my reciept and I got in on Tues, 9/1, so it must’ve been open at least a couple days. I remember being shocked that it was still open. I don’t know if it was the economy or the 3000+ they took in:)

I got mine the morning after the race. 3,000+! Ouch. I thought it was going to suck to be with 2,000 of my “closest friends” for my first IM, but 3,067 (from the participants list) is crazy. It still is a mass start I assume…

Does anybody there care about putting some limits for safety (I know… safety in numbers, but this seem like quite the opposite here), or is IMC just printing money at all costs?

I realize every event is different, but just as an FYI, Lake Placid 2011 sold out by 1:45pm on Monday.

Do they have Kona slots next year? If not, there maybe less demand.

There were 2800 in IMC in 2007 and it was fine… the swim start is very wide and there are plenty of opportunities for good lines free of traffic. I started out as far left as I could go and never saw another swimmer until I reached the first turn (1600m I think).

I was just in Lake Placid on Sunday - no for sure they have crammed way too many bodies into the small width of the start on Mirror Lake.

Don’t worry about Canada - You’ll love it.
