Did anyone do Half Ironman South Africa and if so what did you think?

Anyone do it ? Anyone doing the full distance one this year ?

I did it. Well organised, nice course. A really good event.

The IM has about 800 entries in it’s first year. This will continue to increase as the word spreads.

SA is great place to holiday as well.

My Norweign friend Jostein raced the full distance last year thought it a great race. Not as hot as you might think all though it can be pretty changeable. IF you are interested I could e him for details.

I did the 1/2 last year (there was no full last year, it was only a half, so the poster above might be confused). It was my favorite race and a fantastic vacation. It was in the 70’s in the morning, but the sun felt very strong by the time I got to the run, and it was pretty hot. The bike course is very scenic - its along a rocky coast with very slight rolling hills. The water was nice (The beach is called “Shark Rock”, but I was told the great white sharks don’t swim in the bay). The run in the 1/2 was flat on the road along the beach with one tough 1/4 mile hill that you go up, down, and then back up again. Most people were actually walking this hill even in the 1/2. Good luck, I can’t recomend this race highly enough to everyone.

Just e-mailed our respective head honcho. He gave the green light if I scrub Septembers racing and finish my season at the Duo Normand TT in France.

This looks more doable…

I did the HIM last year and had a ball!! It was my first half and it is great venue for a race in a great country - I am biases of course, i live here!!!

Will be doing the full Ironman this year - my first.

Great course - the swim is in a protected bay (2 loops,) bike is on a rolling course (3x60km) with one biggish hill, and the run is flat this year, 3x14km. If the wind doesn’t blow - which is a big if, it will be a fast course.

Raynard Tissink should win it fairly easily I would think.
