Thinking of taking the plunge on some DA Di2 and was wondering if anyone had any experiences with using the system without the shifters on the bullhorns? What will I need to run just the bar ends shifters?
thanks

Front wire kit, SM-EW79A-E

There is a thread, somewhere, that goes into some detail on that. See if you can find it via Search. It definitely can be done, but, you have to do something with the wiring to bypass the connectors to the brake levers.
actually if you have the standard front wiring harness you should still be able to use it even with out plugging in the bull horn shift levers. they are wired parallel. so not being plugged in shouldn’t effect the functionality of the bar end shifters. you will just have a pile of wire to hide some where.
I have Di2 on my Parlee tri bike and I would highly recommend installing the shifters on the base bar and aero bars. One of the big advantages is being able to shift at any time and from any hand position whatsoever. For example, out of the saddle, accelerating out of a turn or over the top of a rise. Why would you give that advantage up?
i concur… but i figured the guy was too cheap to buy all the stuff, or he/she was going AOD.
with out the shifters on the bullhorns, save your money as there really isn’t much of a reason for the system at that point.
X2, i totally agree.
x3, a R2C shifter is by far enough in this configuration !
X4. the whole reason why I just blew a bunch of money on a new bike with Di2 was totally for the dual shift positions. I figure that would buy me safety and speed- in and of itself.
If you never had the base bar shifting option, you will never miss it. But once you have it, you realize all that “extra effort” it takes to shift when you are on your base bar. Shoot the lock off the wallet and do it right. You won’t regret it.
so general consensus is to go for the bullhorns as well. I was thinking along the lines of “i won’t miss it as I never had it” but it sounds like it could be worth going all out.
thanks

It’s like getting a Ferarri and putting snow wheels on it ![]()
Trust me, you won’t regret getting the base bar shifting. Just make sure your current base bar allows for the brake cables AND the wires for the di2. They just need to have enough room. Best of luck!
thanks - time to add another part or two to the order! now what do I get the misses to compensate…or is that another thread??
