I got the basebar shifter, front and rear der etc. I only need the bar end shifters which are sold out many places or are stupidly expensive. So I was thinking that maybe I could use the climb button or sprint buttons instead. Is that possible?
Yes, as long as you have that new system. With their eTube software stuff you’re supposed to be able to program any button to do anything (well shift up or down). So I don’t see why you can’t run a couple of those sprint shifters up to control your rear derailleur.
I would look more at the climbing button than the sprint shifters. It’s bigger but that might be a better fit. If you run two you might be able to control both the front and rear.
I’m in the same boat as you. I have a nice Di2 Ultegra upgrade kit but no base or bar end shifters. I’m waiting for Di2 Ultegra TT stuff to come out.
I asked on this forum a little bit ago about a release date for Di2 Ultegra TT but no one knew.
If you end up using the climbing buttons let me know how it goes.
I have dura ace di2 and my question is regarding sprint and climb for da di2
I do have ultegra di2 fd and rd and I am also waiting (impatiently) for the ultegra di2 tt gear
.
You can mix the two systems if it’s the newer DA stuff.
You can use the SW-R600 for TT shifting but it only does rear shifting. You would need something else to shift the front
It is the old Dura ace 10spd DI2
.
Any pictures of anyone who have a TT/tri bike setup with DI2 basebar shifters and SW-R600 climber button on the bar ends?
I only really need Rear der shifting anyway - I think if I need to swich to small chainring I need to go basebar anyway
I don’t see why you couldn’t put this thing at the end of your aero bars. You could probably make a little casing so they stayed on there and acted just like Di2 TT shifters.
That cable might be too short though. Not sure how to extend it. I’m guessing it plugs into the climbing switch just like the how it plugs into the junction box, so you should be able to get a longer cable for it.
If you did that you could get some for both sides, although that would be more expensive. It would look better though.
I have a roadbike with the climb button, but its plugged into the right hand shifter. I wonder what it should plug into when I have the basebar tt shifters
So you have the old setup, right? I’m not sure how you could make it work with that.
With the new setup everything shoudl go to junction box B if I understand it correctly.
Yes still talking old Dura Ace 10spd DI2 with the only current available TT basebar DI2 shifter and Di2 climb button.
I don’t think the SW-R600 is DA Di2 compatible. I have it installed with Ultegra Di2 which has different wiring
the (smallish) problem you’ll hit with those shifters into the wiring loom, is they both have the same plug. So rather than male/female, you have male/male (i think, but they are certainly the same as i looked at this scenario 3 hrs ago!)
uhm… maybe I got the model number wrong… I am still refering to OLD Dura Ace DI2 (10 SPD) Dura ace 7970. I have Rear der, front der, wires, battery, STI, Climb button (which I dont remember model number for) and TT Basebar shifters - All is dura ace 7970.
Question: Can old version (Not new 9000 series OR Ultegra DI2) Dura Ace DI2 (10speed) climb button work with the old version Dura Ace DI2 (dura ace 7970)?
Reason I am asking if dura ace 7970 base bar TT shift/brake can work with the climber button is that the bar end shifters for dura ace 7970 seems to be either out of stock or insanely priced. Whereas I can live with only rear der shifting from the climber button.
I do own a Ultegra di2 rear der and front der, but since the TT shifters are not avaliable yet I have to wait. I know the e-tube system will work for both Dura Ace 9000 and Ultegra Di2, which is AWESOME. At the moment it just makes plain old dura ace 7970 a bit left out.
The DA 7970 Di2 sprinter/climber shifters don’t work with the DA 7970 TT brake/shifter levers. With DA 7970 you need the TT shifter with the basebar shifter. At least according to Shimano docs. They do however work for front and rear shifting (not that this solves your problem).
… I’m waiting for Di2 Ultegra TT stuff to come out.
I asked on this forum a little bit ago about a release date for Di2 Ultegra TT but no one knew.
If i remember correctly from Interbike the new DA DI2 (9070) will be out Jan/Feb '13, including the sw-r671 (shimano tt shifters). I’m interested in building up an Ultegra DI2 tt bike also…just have to wait until the new DA stuff with E-tubes come out.
I did what you have (road shifter with climb button) but placed the climb button on the end of my aerobar.
I had to cut the wiring so it will reach the road shifter plug receptor on the side of the hoods.
If your daring enough to lose the warranty…you can splice & insulate on your own. Not a very hard task.
You will have to splice it here:
