I am currently running 10 speed Dura Ace DI2 electronic with old school wires… not E tube with external battery SM BTR1. Is there a way to use the newer internal battery (SM BTR2) with this set up. Being
the front cockpit isnt etube… I don’t know how I would be able to charge the internal battery. Is this possible or am I dead in the water?

There is no shimano internal battery for the pre etube 7970 di2 series. However there is a guy on ebay that has been selling internal battery conversions for this system for years. I’ve had this on my bad weather bike for 4 years now, no issues. Assuming its ok to put his ebay link on here…
