What detergent or other product do you use to remove the bad odor from your athletic clothes. Some of my jerseys have developed some pretty bad stink that doesn’t want to come out. Those that I use on long hot rides are the ones.
Not a detergent: Ozone in laundry (ozonized water).
A cup or so of cheep vinegar in the wash every once and a while does it.
Not an original idea. Just passing it on.

Tide makes a product specifically designed for this problem. I just bought some and tried it for the first time. It seemed to work.
Win detergent was good but I haven’t been able to find it at a retailer or online for over a year.
I have switched to Nikwax Base Wash. It takes the stench right out of the synthetics.

I have no idea what I use, but I picked it up at FastSplits. It is an enzyme based cleaner and really works well. Especially on my run clothes. I am a heavy sweater and before even after a good washing my run clothes still stank.

Sounds expensive.

It hasn’t been available lately. I’ll try again.

Sounds like that’s worth a try. I tried a soak once. Maybe I need to do it more regularly.
Google helped out on this for me a while back. Vinegar in the wash cycle is not what most sites recommended. The consensus: add about 2 cups for a full load to the rinse cycle. Yeah, the clothes will come out smelling vinegary but this will fade upon drying. This is also the #1 cheap trick for removing mold smell …something that won’t go away with simple washing.
Often the clothes smell ok, until the next workout. The sweat seems to bring it out. I’ve thought I had victory before, only to find 4-5 hours into the next ride that I smell like…
Still, it’s worth a try. Should be easy to find.
nikwax makes some great products. REI and Sport Chalet carry their products. I’m in for whatever works. Maybe I need to do a controlled trial of some of these things.
The marketing claims for Penguin Sports Wash and Assos’ detergent claim to remove the odor. They say it is caused partly by detergent residue. These specialized detergents are kinder to lycra, in my experience, and I use the Penguin stuff because it costs half of what the Assos does. You can get it on Amazon.

x2
Two things I do is wash my run/bike gear as soon as I’m done with my Training, with reg Tide. I have a euro type washer and use the gentle cycle, So it does not use much water.
The other is I add white vinegar to the rinse cycle. Works for me.
I do have older bike Jerseys that do get that funk smell but I do not have any issues wth gear from the last 15yrs.
the powder stuff is awesome for all clothes
.
This works nicely
Prowash best stuff ever.

The Tide stuff sucks. It took several washings to get rid of the smell. This Prowash stuff gets rid of my stink (that is tough) and leaves things smelling clean. My wife even lets our workout clothes to be washed together now.
Thanks, everyone. That’s a lot of things to try.
