Desoto Water Rover wetsuit still comes in handy

Weather is just so nice outside and I had not swam for 3 months, decided I had better jump in my backyard lake with the nice 55 degree water for a little 20 minute swim.

55 is pretty cold! My ears would start screaming after a few minutes.

With the hat, gloves, booties and 10mm Desoto water rover wetsuit, what was covered was okay. But the shock to the face, well until it went numb, it was COLD.
I would like to do the UC Davis tri in a month in the river, so I had better be ready for real cold water.

Dave,

I have swam in 48-49 degree water at ITU Worlds in Millford Sound in Queenstown NZ and in Lake Hayes near Arrowtown. Also have swam English Bay in Vancouver BC at 49 degrees. This is so cold that it hurts to put your face in and almost impossible to keep your face in it, so you have to work your way into keeping your head down by swimming a few strokes with head up and a few with head down.

Yep. Body is super warm with the 10mm water rover suit. But the face, ouch. But in the 40’s, real ouch. Once my face goes numb, then I just do not feel the pain anymore.

Our favorite guy in California! Great picture Dave. I love the boom! shirt.

You beat me to it.

My annual “stupid cold” swim is next weekend at Turlock Lake CA.

Desoto T1 and helmet.

Man that first swim is a cold, cold bitch.

I have been out swimming 4 days in a row now. Swam for 26 minutes yesterday and that will probably be the longest I will go until the water warms up. I was really starting to get cold.
I have swim booties and gloves on also but nothing one can do for the face.

Looking at the extended forecast it shows lots and lots of rain for March so shall be interesting to see if we get any kind of march miracle. We sure need the rain but these 70 degree
days sure have made it great for training outside. Was able to run yesterday morning in just shorts at 7am.
