Deerfield Beach Florida Best Place to Run

Need to get a few runs in next week while I will be in Deerfield Beach. Anybody know the best place to log some miles (between 6 and 12 depending on the day).

End of Hillsboro Blvd and A1A. Go north on A1A. After the “S” Curve there is a 10’ path on the West side of A1A that goes for miles.

If you have a car. Park at The Cove Shopping center. You can start your run from there, head to A1A and go North

Side note: If you’re in the mood for a burger, go to Charm City Burgers (right down the street from The Cove Shopping Center) Best burgers in town.

Now that is good run advice, even including post run nutrition!

Deerfield Beach has a Tropical monsoon climate with hot summer days, frequent thunderstorms in the summer, with rain less frequent in the fall, and a threat of a light winter freeze. I have visited there twice .Everything is beautiful there.

When I was coaching a college swim team, I’d run from Bucanneer Condos in Deerfield Beach in either direction. There are only two routes. My long run was down to Ft Lauderdale and back, on the A1A.

One practice was the “Coach Challenge.” The swimmers had to race me back from the pool to the hotel after practice. To level the field, I swam the last 3000m with them, and then we all took off together. Swimmers who didn’t want to run the whole way could get dropped off along the way by the bus. 10k from the pool (Florida Atlantic) to the hotel.

Not trying to be an a-hole but, um, how about just running on the beach??? That’s my all-time favorite place to run whenever I’m near one, but that’s just me.

Had considered it, but I am in a big marathon build and the thought of suddenly running on a surface that I never train on makes me cringe. I fear the running injury (from experience I guess).

See your point. Haven’t had that problem when at the beach for a week or two in the summers, but then I was only going 4-6 mi/day, not 6-12. However, if I lived near a beach, man I’d be out there every day, running and/or just walking. I just love the beach, but then I’m about 6.5 hrs away from the closest one, so it is a “rare treat” for me.

Charm City Burger was fantastic. Will probably get another one after run tomorrow. It was damn good.

Also had a good experience at the LBS down the street.

Great guys: http://bicyclegeneration.com/

Glad it worked out.

BikeGen is my LBS. Cool guys all around. If you need a pool, the Deerfield Aquatic Center isn’t to far, or you could go swim in the really big pool. aka Atlantic Ocean. Water temps should be around 72. Surf was choppy today from all the wind, but tomorrow morning should be a sheet of glass.

Not swimming right now (big marathon next month). Ocean did look inviting. When I knock out the run tomorrow, I plan to get in and feel the water for a few minutes. I am amazed by the number of people around right now, must be a huge snow bird influx in this community.

I ate last night at a joint called the Whale Rib. Pretty good eating as well.

I hope you got the lobster bisque while at the whale’s rib, if not it’s worth going back.

Enjoy the area, I lived in Boca Raton for years and there is a great triathlon scene.

Connect with the Boca Raton Triathlon Club while you’re there if you want some training partners: http://www.bocaratontriathletes.com/

Looks like an awesome place to be a triathlete. I saw tons of riders on a1a plenty sportin IM gear and riding TRI setups. Only here for a few days, so I won’t get to take full advantage of the riding scene.

I may go back to Charm City tomorrow to tackle the Big Sloppy Burger, depends how the12 milers goes. Today I had the regular burger and was quite impressed.

Not sure if you ran up to it or not, but Red Reef Golf Course ( about 5 miles north on A1A) has bathrooms and cold water from the fountain.

If you wanted to, you could park at Red Reef ($2/hour) run to Spanish River, then south to Palmetto Park Rd, then back up to Spanish river and back. This way you have water at your will and can do as many loops as you want.

And yes, go back to Charm.

My parents live down in Highland Beach (between Boca and Delray). I run up and down A1A whenever I’m there. I’ve also hooked up with the people at The Runner’s Edge running store on Federal in Boca Raton. They host an early Saturday morning run from the store down to Deerfield Beach and back.
