Deer Creek Fall Challenge - HFP - Ohio

Deciding between Portgage Lakes Olympic next weekend or the Deer Creek 1/2 Iron the following weekend.

I did portgage lakes last year, so I am familiar, I was more curious if anyone had any info on the Deer Creek 1/2? Specifically the course? They had a map online, but not much detail. Wondering about elevation, roads closed / open, etc… What’s turnout typically?

Thanks for any info…

It’s a pretty flat bike course, but the winds can kick up this time of year. The roads are open but they have police at the turns stopping traffic. There will be lots of bikes on the course because they run a sprint, oly and 1/2 and DU all at the same time. That said HFP does a good job and I’ve never had any issues. You can check HFP website for prior years to see the turnout. The biggest issue was the past 2 years it was really cold, but the race was the 1st week of October, so hopefully it will be warmer this year.

This is from the Oly dist race in June, it does not have the out/back portion on Crownover road that the half does but will give you an idea of the terrain.

I’m in for the Deer Creek Half. I have done this race many times. FAST course for the bike and run. See ya out there.

I just asked about this recently myself. I’m thinking of doing Deer Creek but waiting until last second to pull the trigger.

I spoke with someone at the gym this morning who did this race, said just about the same thing. Thanks for the input!

I’m thinking I am going to skip Portgage Lakes and just do Deer Creek…

I also am a last day register kinda guy… Of about 15 total races the past 3 years, the only race I ever registered for in advance was also my only ever DNS due to injury.
