does running in deep water (Doug Stern’s way at a hard effort) burn as many or close to the same amount of energy/calories as running on land (at a moderate effort)?
thanks for any information,

KC, when I have to resort to pool running I just wear my HRM to keep me honest. This makes sure that I’m going hard, and also gives me an approximate burned-calorie value.
I can tell you from lots of experience that the “calories burned” are never as high in the pool as they are on a real run - regardless of how hard I flail and splash away - but it’s better than nothing!!
going at a hard rate is surprisingly a pretty good challenge. a 40 minute session is some work.
i’m still working on 10 pounds. dang wish I could run on land, the 10 would be gone yesterday…
