As part of Dev’s challenge, or on it’s own, I’ve been doing this for a few years now as December is my worst month - for training volume and food.booze.fail. I need the motivation to keep the running volume up.
So… it’s back, the December 200mi running and drinking challenge. Last year we had a few folks who were over 150mi and like 100 drinks (1 drink = 1 beer, 1 glass of wine or 1oz spirits).
Count me in. 12/1/08 I was FAR ahead of my current fitness coming off the NYC Marathon & nearly cracked 300mi in Dec '08 (293mi).
I’m just getting back *on the *horse now & I’ll be no where near 300 for '09, but should get >200. This always serves as a good kick in the a## though…see you Dec 31
Signing up for a challenge that will encourage me to stay for that “one more round”… what could possibly go wrong!? Combine that with just getting back to a regular run schedule and it’s even better!
Sounds good to me - I’m in. Does the Training Log have a booze category?
the average male in the referenced study burned approx 125 calories per mile of running. You’d have to stick to pretty light beer to keep the calories comparable if you plan on matching beers to miles and just breaking even.
SquarePants - count me in. My mileage will suck for the first two weeks tapering for a marathon. But I think I can still hit 200 again this year. I need to fix my anemic 12/08 booze total though.
I had a blast doing this last year even if the weather in northwest Pennsyvania SUCKED the last few weeks. I hit 250+ and that was with a ton of dreadmill running the last week.

Which is approx how many calories are in a pint of Guiness if I remember correctly. Guiness is full of vitamins. In fact in Ireland docs used to be able to prescribe a pint for patients in the hospital.
