I saw a post here the other day about what is next after Ironman. The Todo Triathlon in Leon Mexico which is 1 Ironman a day for ten days. The current version has completed day 3 and is now on day 4.
One of my athletes who is also a posts here( NM Gal) on Slowtwitch is currently the lead female and 8th out of 13 athletes. The athletes have been tested by cold water , cold temps, and difficulty sleeping.
For those interested they have drug tested the lead athletes yesterday during the third stage. The athletes were greeted at one transition stop by a nice lady in a lab coat.
David Clamp is leading the men after the third stage with a total time of 38:36:11.
Cathy Tibbetts is currently leading the women with a time of 49:35:05.
As if 10 IMs in 10 days wasn’t enough, Cathy raced Kona on the 10th and is set to do IM Florida this November 7th. That would be 12 IMs in a month without even using an elliptical. Pretty darn impressive for a 60 something gal.
Wow, that sounds like quite the race !! I guess it’s just naming but I always thought the deca (and the triples, quads, etc) ironmans were 10x the distance and not ten ironmans. Meaning they swim the totals in order. So a triple is swim 7.2, bike 336, and then run 78.6. I think I think doing 3 events be the totals distances at once would be a more difficult undertaking for sure. Some awesome athletes no matter.
There are two formats for the quintuple/Deca and double/Triple Deca. Straight format or 1 Ironman a day times 10. They really are two distinct different types of races. Both have their own qualities.

Kathy
We have talked and worked toward this for over four years. We waited until after she podiumed at Kona and 70.3 Worlds. She is a rare athlete who has the pedigree to do this type of race. Eco Challenge, Marathon De Sables, 100 mile runs.
Bad Ass is used for the most marginal feats but this woman is the real deal. so far she’s holding up well.
fuck. i thought she was kidding. what a BAMF. Go Cath! (she finished 4th in her AG at Kona just a bit ago, right)?
FB page for the event (original site has been hugged too hard) https://www.facebook.com/todotriatlon?fref=nf
Actually, i looked her up and she was 9th out of 30 in the women’s 60-64, finishing in 13:59 (1:20/7:00/5:24). First in her AG was 12:10 by Laura Sophia who has been at or very near the top of her AG for somewhere around 25-30 yrs. 9th out of 30 is still doing pretty well though:)
Eric,
I have coached Cathy for over four years. She was fourth in her age group last year at Kona and finished season as the second ranked Ironman athlete in the world. This year’s Kona was devoted more to a solid day but still be able to recover to attempt this event. So far so good but each day offers larger challenges. She is a remarkable athlete with incredible race managemt skills.

Ah, 4th last year, i see. And, i can see how she might have just been pacing herself this year since she had the deca coming up after just 8 days recovery. Anyway, obv she is quite remarkable:)
