Death in RAAM

Very very sad day. RAAM lost Dr. Bob Breedlove today. He was a former 5 time finisher. Kinda totally stunned for words right now. Please include his family in your prayers and thoughts today. Hoping the rest of the RAAMers can get through the rest of this arduous race safely.

Ouch. That guy was awesome. If I recall, he’s completed about a bazillion of these, maybe even won the tandem division once…

Sad day…

Crap, I remember hanging out in the bike shop a year or so ago talking to him. He was making some adjustments on his tandem calfee. Great guy, very friendly.

I met him at PAC tour training camps for a couple of years. He was a rock, put in tons of training miles, always rode with the sleeves ripped off of his jerseys. Also, a nice guy. My thought are with his family.

that’s a huge shock. must be really scary for the people still riding the rest of RAAM.

Very sad.

The detailed description of the accident on the web site makes it sound like he collapsed on the bike and the driver was not at fault ( for once ).

Very sad, my thoughts go out to his wife and children.

The report did make it sound like he collapsed before hitting the truck…perhaps he passed quietly while doing what he loved, and didn’t feel any pain from the truck. Absolutely tragic

I also met Bob on a couple of PAC tours - wonderful man who was very humble and always willing to share - my thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends.

I remember reading his bio on Tuesday and thinking to myself, “This old dude rocks. I bet he could open a 55 gallon drum of whoopass on me.” I was excited to track his progress. :frowning:

Sad, very sad. My condolences to his children, wife, family, and friends.

EDIT: Keep in mind I’m a shade more than 2 decades old so half a century is “old”…it’s all relative.

What a sad story…but this is one guy who should be remembered for what he did in life, not death. Apparently if you read his bio, he did RAAM one year ('98) but he biked from OHIO to CAL to get there!!! Then did the race CAL to NJ and then rode BACK TO OHIO after!!! What an incredible athlete…and I"m supposed to believe Michael Jordan or Tom Brady are the greatest athletes in the world, yeah right.

My condolences to his family and the RAAM competitors.
