Does anyone train in this tri short in a chlorinated pool? The manufacturer warns against repeated pool use, but I’m wondering if anyone has first hand experience…does the suit break down fast?
Why risk it? Just swim in some jammers or swim trunks.
I just don’t understand why this question gets asked so often.
I do not know about forza tri short specifically but I can attest to the fact that when it says not for repeated use in chlorine, you should not repeatedly use it in chlorine.
I had a pair of tri shorts that got ripped in a bike accident so I used them in the pool. One day I realized the material had disintegrated to the point that my junk was visible through the black material.
Chlorine destroys everything… plain and simple, don’t use your “good” stuff in the gym pool.
The only time i’d swim in it is for a race. Just pick up a $20 jammer to play the role.
I do have first hand knowledge. After ~1.5yrs w/o running due to back-to-back injuries I got sick of seeing my nice comfy Forza shorts go un-used, so I used them 1x/wk for my bike-swim-bike Sunday morning training session. The shorts worked perfectly for that purpose since they swim like a pair of jammers and work great as bike shorts for shorter rides.
Unfortunately they died pretty quickly from the pool swimming. Even just using 1x/wk, followed by cool water wash/rinse at home, they only lasted for ~6-8 swims before very noticable fatigue, then died completely pretty quickly after a couple more swims. Litterally threw them away almost in rags after maybe ~10-12 swim/bike sessions.
I just bought a new pair ~1 mo. ago in prep for my first serious tri race since re-starting running last year. Price increase to $84 made me wish I hadn’t burned through that last pair…
yeah I had a pair of desoto shorts that I LOVED and I swam in them for training and it was seriously like 2 months and they were indecent to wear. Get some speedo endurance suits. Those things last FOREVER. I have two regular cut speedo’s and one square leg that I have had for years now and they look and fit as good as the day I bought them.
same as the others, had a set of PI tri shorts eaten up by chlorine in short order. Just go cheapo jammer
Speedo Endurance is most definitely awesome. Had my last suit for a year, and only replaced it because I lost it. Looked just as good as the first day of purchase.
