Dallas Tri-Training Groups

Hey all- I’m moving to Carrollton, TX at the end of the month, and I’m looking for some tri groups to get involved with for some training and socializing. I saw the DFW Tri-club- which sounds more like a coaching thing. I don’t really need any coaching, just some group run/rides maybe swims to for a good workout and make friends in a new area. Thanks!

Take a look at http://www.trisherpa.net. Our head honcho’s contact info is at the bottom of the main web page.

Based just up the road in Denton. We have about 40 or 50 members or so, from people new to triathlon to some real studs. We have multiple group training activities every week pretty much year-round (pool and open water swim, group rides and Computrainer, and run), as well as frequent, “fun” group social activities. We have great relationships with the local race organizers and tri shops and get good race and merchandise discounts.

Hey Brian, I’m also in Carrollton. There are a ton of tri clubs in the area: DFW Tri, Playtri, Triple Threat Tough, Cambridge, Tri Now, to name a few. Most of them are focused on coaching but will just let you do the group workouts and socialize for an annual fee, usually around $150. You should try out a few workouts with each of them.

Welcome to Texas!

Speed skater, welcome to DFW area. The best place to be a triathlete! Lol yes I am biased. My good friend recommended trisherpa; it’s a great group of triathletes who formed it. I am lucky to associate with them and lead that club. We started officially a little over a year ago and now have a ton of programs and offerings to those who join us. Your welcome to give us a spin. As we said many options are on the calendar. Just give us a shout!

Check out Playtri. There are multiple locations, so depending on where you work and commute, there is always a store close by. They have group rides and group workouts.

Disclaimer: I am on their race team, but that doesn’t negate the fact that there is always something going on…either group workout, ride, strength training, etc.

I think any group around here pushes coaching from their club’s coach/coaches, but doesn’t require you to be coached to join in. They may want you to pay the club fee to join workouts, though:

DFW- Tri club has a lot of weekly runs & swims, and some rides throughout the metroplex. (Caveat emptor - The swims require an additional (discounted) membership to LA Fitness to attend workouts at those pools). Its probably the most social of the groups around.

Playtri does have some groups, but I’m unsure their time & locations. Fit2Train is down by White Rock Lake, so a bit of a drive for you.

For Swims - I swim with a master’s group at The J in Dallas which is possibly a short drive for you.

TriShop in Plano has some group rides & runs. Luke’s Locker & Run On have group runs at most of their stores in the area.

Look at Dallas Athletes. It doesn’t involve coaching. The Wednesday night ride is out of Carrollton and they have many run and ride options. Usually have open water swims but most of our lakes are in flood stage so swim venues are inaccessible. If you are a hammerhead on the bike it is sort of hard to find a really fast group of triathletes to ride with but they are out there somewhere. I have been here 15 years and haven’t found one but then again I like training solo most of the time so wasn’t looking that hard. The DA Wednesday night ride can get a bit challenging depending on who shows.

Hey - I’m in Carrollton as well. I don’t participate in any tri teams currently, as their workout schedules don’t usually work for me. However, I have had very good luck with service at PlayTri in Plano/The Colony (Sam is great to work with) as well as Bicycles Plus in Coppell. I’ll shoot you a PM as well.
