Dallas July 22 -27th

We will be visiting our daughter in Dallas July 22nd to 27th. This is our first trip to the area. Joe will be looking for bike rides, routes and a pool near Frisco. Any advice from the locals? Private messages are fine.

Jeez, you coming to the right place. There’s a ton of great riding and venues in the area. I’m in South Dallas/FW area, so I can’t give you stuff pertaining to Frisco, which is far North Dallas. However, I know there are some other STers here who live up there.

there are group rides almost every night thru RBM http://bikemart.com/articles/richardson-bike-mart-calendar-pg659.htm
which is located about 30 minutes south of Frisco.

for swimming, there are a variety of pools, public and otherwise, the Pearce High School Natatorium (near UTD) is less than half an hour away.

don’t drive all the way to Richardson if you’re in Frisco. there’s actually a Richardson bike Mart in Frisco with rides. http://bikemart.com/articles/rbm-weekly-rides-pg461.htm (scroll down)

I’m not sure about pools up there. I know the cities of The Colony and Plano both have community pools with drop-in rates.

There are several competition pools in that area (I used to coach near by).

Frisco Aquatic Center
5828 Nancy Jane Lane, Frisco, TX 75035-6552
(972) 292-6600‎

The Colony Aquatic Center (off 121 tollway)
5729 Memorial Drive, The Colony TX, 75056
469-948-2750

Plano West High School (owned by the city of Plano so they’ll have lap time at some point)
5801 W Parker Rd Plano**, **TX 75093

Hope this info helps and let me know if you want some really good places to eat in that area

Thanks, everyone has been most helpful. ST is so great for this type of information. Since our daughter lives there permanently now(they hope) , we will be back often. Might even want some race suggestions in the future.

I would love some ideas for places to eat. We are not big “chain” eaters, prefer to eat local stuff. That is harder to find on our own. Not into “fine dining” as a rule.

if you are in plano, definitely hit up “love and war in texas” it’s local food animals (hog, rabbit, deer) if they are in season, very traditional texan food.

Ironhead is probably the biggest triathlon race producer in the area www.ironheadrp.com

playtri puts on a couple www.playtri.com

and Dallas Athletes puts on a couple. they are probably the closest to Frisco. http://www.dallassportsuniversity.com/

As for food, Dallas is the leader of restaurants and malls per capita. Unfortunately, the suburbs are mainly chains, but they have a few good spots. If there’s a specific type of food you’re interested in, I could point you that way.

24hr fitness also has a 2wk free trial membership that would work. As for riding. Just get on the bike and ride north. You can ride forever on nice gental rolling farm to market roads. Just be leary of the chip seal roads. Ass numbing. I live in Allen. Right next to Frisco. If you want to get together just PM me.

There are 2 Master’s swimming teams in Frisco. Let me know if you would like to join our workouts and I’ll hook you up. 5:00am to 7:15am. Lot’s of group rides in the area also. If you let me know the type of ride you are looking for (pace, level of competition) I’ll hook you up there as well. The group rides range from steady conversational, to brutally hard with constant attacks with a finish line. Great stuff here. Rick
