Prospect Park has a major place in the NYC cycling scene. Lot's of people riding , racing, training. I heard on CBS news today that a cyclist was stabbed in the back by two guys who ran away with his bicycle in Prospect Park. We had reports of bicycles being stolen at gunpoint in California about a month ago, now this one. Apparently the wrong people have found out just what these bicycles are worth. Everyone please ride with your eyes open. This could happen to anyone, not just someone going to the wrong place at the wrong time.
Sorry to be an alarmist. I just want to let people know.
Thaks for the alert - do you know where in CA the gunpoint robbery was? Since I live in San Diego I would want to know if it was near here. I will pass the NY incident on to my sister who is out there
I’ve known people who have had this happen to them in AZ and NM. They get knocked off their bikes by a car door then the perps take the rigs and are over the border before anything can be done. You figure a good bike is worth 1500 average. You could sell that bad boy for 500-700 in a heartbeat. Not bad pay for just a few hours of waiting for the right rider.
sucks that people feel the need to steal from other people. I had my mt. bike stolen about a year ago. Never have had the money to replace it so, no off roading for me. I would LOVE to do Xterra’s but thats out of the question for a while.
Keep that cell phone handy if you feel that you are riding in unsafe areas.
Peace. Except for those I don’t like. To them, not so much peace.
No way !? Do you have the reference?
If you do a search on it, there was a discussion about it when it happened.

Had my bike stolen from my house a few years ago. I was living on a steep winding hill at the time and my brakes were disconnected because I was working on them.
Hope the thief appreciated the ride.
Actually did me a favour because insurance paid out and I got a new bike.
Did you see a grease spot at the bottom of the hill?
The tinker incident happened at a park next to the Los Angeles River Path not San Gabriel.
A guy just escaped getting jacked on that riverbed last week, also. He said he was riding his mountain bike and was approaching a bunch of men that were standing there waiting for him to pass. He started to speed up to go through them head-on. When he got close, all but one guy jumped out of the way. The last guy standing reached out and tried to grab his handlebar and throw him off. Luckily, the guy on the mountain bike stayed upright and steered down the embankment and rode away on the bottom of the bed.
Just always be aware of your surroundings!!!
(this is no intention to hi-jack the thread, just wanted to give a heads-up to people riding in the LBC)
