Cycling workout question

Sorry if this is a dumb post, but I have a book by Carmichael with some suggested workouts and the way they’re worded, I’m not sure what I’m supposed to do. If it says 1 hour zone 2 ride with 2 x 10 minute tempos, does that mean within the 1 hour ride I do two tempo sessions or do I do a 1 hour ride and 2 x 10 tempo sessions for a total ride time of an hour and a half. I’m just making up the times, I’m really asking if the tempos are included in the ride time or ar in addition to the ride time.

Sorry but I’m a newbie when it come to structured cycling workouts and just want to start off right.

Not a huge difference either way, but the total ride time is 1 hour in the above scenario.

The zone 2 is more of a warmup/cooldown the 2x10 minutes is where you are going to get your fitness gain. If the overall time is 1:00-1:20 it isn’t going to make much of a difference as long as you get those 2x10’s in there.
