Trying to decide between two sizes. I bought two pair of LG la84 shoes, sizes 45 and 46. They both seem to fit ok…ie the 45 isn’t tight and constricting and the 46 isn’t sloppy.
The ultimate plan is to put elastic in them, a la Gerlach. Thoughts?
Nothing precludes the answer both…I got them at half off. That was my wife’s recommendation. So, I’m cleared on that front.
I guess I could convert one (cut out the tongue) and keep the other as a daily shoe. Which would do better as the race shoe?
Elastic in a cycling shoe? Sounds to defeat the purpose of a good stiff shoe if you’re going to make it sloppy with elastic laces. Maybe unless you only ride flat courses? In which case I tap out.
True, I hadn’t. But I assumed someone was already doing it given your reference to Gerlach. Interesting he notes no loss in climbing. I recently picked up a new pair of tri shoes b/c I needed a pair, these were priced reasonably and they went on my feet. But I hate them - super uncomfortable and I can’t see how the bulky as hell velco strap can be very aerodynamic.
My first cycling shoes (1996) were lace up. Funny how things come full circle.
I didn’t take that into account when I got my giro empires. Went with my normal size and they work great with elastic and no tongue. I’d almosd say go larger since your feet are bound to swell a bit in the heat or racing and riding. But If the smaller size gives room for that then I’d go that route. But seems like you can’t go wrong either way.
