I have purchased a Powerbeam Pro several months ago. I am quite happy with it, it works very fine BUT…
almost each workout the computer looses the power (for few seconds of several minutes) and search it. During a programmed workout, if for example I am 200w during 5 minutes, it suddenly begins to search the power. The 5 minutes ends, and the 100w recovery keeps the difficulty of the 200w (quite a problem specially if the workout is a hard one !).
Sometimes after few minutes, it finds the power again and it’s ok,
sometimes, it doesn’t find it and keep searching…
Calibration done.
No other devices near (except the Quarq powermeter that is one the bike, but the Powerbeam computer is paired with the Powerbeam, not with the Quarq; that shouldn’t be a problem ?).
Temperature of the room not too hot (opened window and it’s… winter in Paris !!!).
I have had the powerbeam for 3 years(I think) now and I had very sporadic instances of this but it only lasts 5-10 seconds so I do not have a solution but my simple recommendation is to Call Saris. IMHO- they have some of the best customer service around and can probably fix your problem or get you a replacement immediately.
Sometimes that happens too, sometimes not.
Sometimes before or sometimes after the power disappears.
In fact, no systematic link between the two informations.

Has the power ever dropped at say 90 rpm? If so, there is likely a problem.
Yes.
I’ve read yesterday that it could happen if you’re under 40 rpm or over 130 rpm.
But it happens to me in “normal” values, like 80-90-100 rpm, and at normal powers, 200, 250, 300w.
You can try as hard as you like to get to the bottom of this problem you won"t i am on my third one on these expensive crap things, should have spent a bit on and bought a CT.

Myself and a friend bought these a few months ago and have no problems whatsoever. That’s if I didn’t just jinx us.
Are you using the joule 3 computer or the original computer, this seems to be were the problem is, for older users this means a rather expensive upgrade.
Short-term fix: Unplug power cord from unit, wait 5sec, plug back in. Back on bike and riding in <15sec. Annoying but effective.
Long-term fix: Obtain a Joule. Doesn’t hang-up like the original PB head unit. Recommend having your LBS contact Cycle-Ops with a report of the problem and a request for a Joule.

Good luck.
I bought it from another user, can’t have a warranty for the Joule. Joule alone is quite expensive (if you count the price of the Powerbeam).

Thanks Spindogg. Mine was resetting every 30 to 60 seconds. I did a reset to default settings under the calibration menu and that resolved the issue. Back to riding!
