Cycleops Fluid 2 Trainer Setup help

I need some help trying to figure out the right amount of pressure resistance to set my new fluid up at. The directions say to rotate the cam lever in *OPEN *position until the roller just contacts the tire. At first, I thought the “open” position was the yellow lever sticking straight out because that is the position that is easiest to screw it in more. Then I realized that is really about half way closed and so when I close it onto the tire, it does not seem to be very much resistance. It seemed to ride okay this way though.

I then realized it goes all the way down when it is completely open. So I tightened it until the unit was barely touching the tire with the lever all the way down(fully open). With it like this, when I close the lever onto the tire, it seems to be a little bit too much pressure.

So my question is, anyone who has one of these, can you elaborate more on these directions on where to have the lever to provide the optimum amount of resistance? I noticed that the more resistance I would get onto the tire, the tire would squeak a little.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Put the yellow lever in the open position when you are adjusting. Then close the lever and the roller should be barely touching the tire. If too much pressure is on the tire, open up and adjust again. Also, you want just enough tire on there so it doesn’t slip.

Thats what I did, the instructions say to tighten the lever in the open position until it is barely touching the tire and then close the yellow lever.

The magic question is, what is the actual definition of it being in the “open” position? Sticking straight out, or all the way down?

Straight out is open. Flipped down/up is closed.

The instructions are correct. Remember, it should be 10-15% harder on a trainer than outdoors.

Play with the tension until it just barely doesn’t slip. Grab the wheel and jerk it up and down to test it. When it barely doesn’t slip anymore, you’re good. Flip the yellow handle back out after you’re done to relieve the pressure while you’re not using it. On my Fluid2 trainer, somewhere between 18.5 and 19MPH is 300W, so you’ll definitely not see the same speeds from the road. Good luck!

After I flip the yellow handle in place, I pull the bike wheel and the fly wheel in opposite directions. If there is no slippage, I’m good to go.

Thanks guys,

I think I have it dialed in now!
