Cycle computers (1)

What are you all using for your cycling computers?

I currently have a Cateye Strada Cadence on my road bike, and while I love it, I am going to have to put something on my tri bike.

I can’t imagine going through the pain of wiring it all up again, but I have long heard that wireless cadence sucks.

I’m not so sure I want to step way up to a heart rate or gps system, but I guess if it’s worth it…

Any thoughts?

Hmmm. I use the Cateye V2c (wireless) and works just fine for me.

I likes 'em simple. Cateye wireless, no cadence. Virtually idiot-proof installation and operation, and pretty cheap, too.

Cateye is good/simple. Cadence is a good add on. Try the new cateye v3.

I have a Cateye Strada Cadence on my road bike as well. I could have got myself another for my tri bike they really only take a few seconds to wire up and I do like the large display and simple operation. However, I bought a used V2C off the classifieds for two reasons.

First, wires are aerodynamically ugly. The best way to attach it would have been to tape in to the trailing edge of the down tube and that would have been a pain.

Second, it is easy to mount the computer out on my extensions so that I can actually read it.

I haven’t had any problems with poor data, but I also haven’t run down the batteries yet.

I had the cateye double wireless for a while.

I really liked it…
for about 6 months.

My experience was similar to others:
I liked that it was wireless and the fact that it could still be used on the trainer but…
I didn’t like that it burns through batteries. and then after six months, it started going downhill. Evey once in a while it would just shut down, or start blinking like it was low on batteries, and require re-calibration. I tried to re-set it up every once in a while, but despite my efforts of re-installing and installing new batteries, the problem got worse and worse. Eventually I got fed up with it. (PS: a tip I have learned since then is to put some loctite on the threads on the sensor when installing, supposedly this would have fixed my problem if I had done this initally.)

I have since gone to the Mavic wintech. I love the fact that it gives me all the information I need, and it is still wireless, idiot proof and so far, bomb-proof. I did get the home trianer option that installs on the back wheel. The Mavic wintech does not refresh/update as fast some others (I am not that concerned if it doesn’t say I ramped it up to 22mhp as fast as I really did), but so far I have been really happy with it.
