So I just started a custom yoga towel company and since I’m more of a triathlete than a yogi (although my bike isn’t getting much love lately…) I think that I can spin this off into a really cool customized transition towel company for teams/clubs, etc.
How big should I make a transition towel? I’m thinking that it should basically be something that you can toss in your bag nice and small and use for drying off, possibly, if you’re cruising through T1/T2 to wipe off a bit, scrape some sand off your feet, etc. Personally I’d love something big enough to change in as well but I’m not sure if everyone wants that.
Bigger is better:
-you can change with it wrapped around you
-take a nap post race on it
-wrap it around you when it’s cold
-post race picnic!
Bigger is badder:
-it’s more expensive, my production cost is basically per square foot
-that’s what I have my cheapo walmart towel for, make my transition towel small so I can fit it in my bag
-it’s just for wiping off so you don’t need it that big.
What would you guys pay for a custom towel, say 26x26" square or something with team graphics or a cool design? This would be a really high quality microfiber towel.
Right now on my custom yoga towel site we sell (retail pricing) our big yoga mat sized towel at $42 and our smaller hand towel 26.5x16" at $22. If we did a custom team type of towel it would deifinitely sell at under retail as we’d probably be doing a bunch at a time. But what do you think you’d be interested in paying? If we did a totally cool custom towel for say $15? $20 if it was even cooler? This is never going to be a $5 towel btw, partially because we’re using a premium material and partially just due to the custom nature.
Anyways, I’d love some feedback. If this works out I promise I’ll do some sort of killer deal or giveaway on ST to individuals, a team, etc. Will pay it forward for sure.
You can see the yoga towel stuff at www.customyogitowels.com. For the tech geeks we’re basically using a custom sueded (basically it’s brushed microfiber) microfiber material. Towels are gorgeous in person and the web doesn’t really do it justice. There is a 10% off ST discount code ST10. There is also a 20% off vday discount vday20 until 2/20.
I like the idea. I would rather have something small like a bath mat. Maybe a little longer. I think if you make them bigger, people will take up even more space in transition-lol.
The cost question is actually easy-charge 100 bucks and say it will drop 90 seconds off the t1 and 2 time and call it marketing. It seems like everything costs at least 100 if it’s good. Just kidding I would say 20 bucks would be a logically retail cost, but I don’t know what your costs for a custom or semi custom mat would be.
I don’t know about the rest of the group but I don’t towel off after the swim, maybe scrape sand off quickly but I don’t use t1 as a rest stop. But that maybe something others look for.
Having a team mat would be nice and if the cost is right I would be interested in getting a few.
Lol, we’ll make one with step by step T1 and T2 instructions for a faster transition. I’m kind of joking but at the same time when I used to coach I definitely had newbies that would have benefited from this when they were in their first few nervous races. On that note… maybe I could use that as I’ve jumped on my bike more than once still wearing my speedsuit and even wore it through a ridiculously hot run at Lavaman Kona one year. “T1 - TAKE OFF SPEEDSUIT!!!”
If I did a bath mat size I think we’d be around $20 for 5+ with full color custom printing. I’ll cut up some of our larger yoga blanks and make a few samples up… I just think it would be a cool piece of team gear.
checked out your website. great designs!
bathmat size sounds about right. i have seen people with giant beach towels in transition. we want to avoid that.
good luck with your business!
Sweet idea and nice site. Will definitely be getting creative with this.I’m not too familiar with pricing and what not, if I like it I’ll usually drop coin regardless of pricing. An impulsive triathlete, go figure. Im intersted in hand towels for my trainer rides and a transition towel. Something custom is nice to set it apart. Will be doing business
Yeeper, if you want to try something out send me a PM and I can hook you up.
We’ll do huge towels with caution tape printed on the edges for people who want huge transition areas;) I think my transition area now days is about 1/3 the size it was when I first started and my gear bag going to a race keeps getting smaller and smaller!
