Custom painted P5

Has anyone custom painted their P5 frame. The stock P5 has a nice look, but it would be great to see some custom rigs out there.

I featured one in this year’s Kona bike check-in feature
.

Hot tubes has one on their Facebook page.

Not sure if it’s still the case, but unless you get it done by one of the very few Cervelo approved painters, custom painting your P5 will likely void your warranty.

I assume this is because there is potential for chemicals to remove the original paint, to somehow damage the carbon. (don’t ask me how as epoxy is pretty hard to kill) OR, sanding could damage the carbon if not done carefully.

Carbon frames, particularly high end ones like the P5 are as thin as they can possibly be, at least in places, so even a small amount of damage can be a big problem.

I just picked up a P2, and even tho the colours offend my eye, I will live with them as I can’t afford to give up a warranty. Afterall, I look down the road. Only the spectators have to look at the paint job

Old photo missing some tire, saddle and crank swaps, but with the vinyl.

There was a cool Peterbuilt painted one on here a year or so ago. A search should pull it up.

I was thinking about custom painting a P5.

Will it definitely loose its warranty?

If you have Hot Tubes do the job it will not void your warranty.

That P2 looks great. Can you post more info on what you did with the vinyl, what product you used, and how you prepped it?
Thanks!

I don’t have any pics, but I changed the color of the stripes on my P5 with Avery Supreme Wrapping Film.

Avery makes a line of car wrap (like the vehicles you see with the full custom wrap with an ad on it) along with just solid colors. I used www.stripeman.com to order “stripes by the foot”, which there several dozen colors and effects you can choose from. The film is very thin, yet opaque, so you can cover over dark colors and not worry about bleed through from underneath. I’m sure there’s other sites out there for ordering materials, but I used Stripman because I could order as little as 12"x14" pieces.

It’s not too hard to apply, but it was a slight learning curve to mimic the lines, cut, and apply straight. I think it’s a great product for doing little changes to the paint scheme of a bike.

Here’s the inspiration and lots of info:

I used Decal Driveway as suggested in that thread along with the masking tape/exacto knife method. Little time consuming, but IMO looks pretty nice.
