Custom made track spikes for wide feet?

Hoping the ST collective can help my son.

My 15 year old is a sprinter on his HS track team and needs sprinting spikes but has really wide feet, like duck paddles, and no spikes fit him.

New Balance has the widest offerings as we understand it but they are still very uncomfortable for him.

Are there any custom makers out there that anyone knows of?

Thanks.

I don’t know about custom makers, but if you look into some of the spikes with flyknit uppers, they’re stretchy and form-fitting enough that they might be able to work for him. That may be more of a distance spike thing than a sprint spike thing though.

Thanks. That’s where we kept landing after a lot of Google queries. Looks like his only real option is making do with a distance spike.

Seems to be an unfulfilled market opportunity for custom/bespoke track spikes. I thought we’d at least find a few custom makers to look at even if they were expensive but nada.

You might possibly figure out an option using a sneakerhead customizer like GOVN.

You could take an upper from a shoe that fits and have him match it to a sprint spike plate.

The tough part will be getting an upper to match the plate without it being uncomfortable as the plate won’t be as wide as the upper.

Good luck

I feel your pain. 13x6E but upsized to wear a 15W to get the width right.

I cut expansion room in most uppers with a slit by the little toe. The older kinvara were really good for this. Don’t hesitate to remove parts of the insole as well. This has worked for me with old school XC track spikes, but never tried with carbon plated.

Cheers, Slick
